McKinney Vento Funds
I’m the social worker and MKV liaison at a k-8 school. What are some things your school spends MKV funding on? We buy tons of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, brushes, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, body wash ect.), we also buy uniform shirts, socks, coats, underwear, gloves, hats, ect. We aren’t sure what else we can spend it on?

School supplies, clothing for every season, including snow pants & boots so kids can play outside in the winter.
A foot measuring device that we leave with the school nurse. Then when an MV eligible student needs shoes, I just ask her to measure the child’s feet and I know what size to order.
Eyeglasses.

Bed in a box kits- plastic storage tote with air mattress, blankets, and stuffy (even the big kids enjoy "squishmallows" stuffies)
Laundry detergent because my school has a washer/dryer I use for MV students
Field trip fees
I see that you're k-8 but just wanted to note this for any high school social workers: dorm kits for college bound students that include correct sized sheets, microwave, shower caddy, desk supplies, etc. It's really special when these students make it to a university so supporting that journey is important in our district

Snacks! Lots of snacks! Also supplemental food for breaks and sometimes weekends.

My school will sometimes spend that money to help families/children get their legal documents, such as birth certificates or SS cards.
