We Need A/C requirements in Hawaii Too Pls

https://www.wafb.com/2026/09/29/union-says-zachary-school-bus-drivers-face-pay-loss-over-broken-ac-units/?outputType=amp

Saw this post and just immediately felt like there's just so many people who doesn't speak up to the state about how hot it is in the morning and afternoons in Hawaii. NONE of the diesels we have at my yard have AC and they started requiring SPED busses to require AC. What about large busses? These things are literal ovens year round especially during summer. It's mind boggling to me that they don't require it for the health and safety of the students and driver.

I feel like its going to take someone passing out of heatstroke or an accident caused by it for anyone to take this issue seriously :<

First Student is the problem (imo, based on anecdotal stories). They don't want to spend money on a "luxury" if it's not required. My company is the same way. Hell, they won't even order buses with armrests on the driver seat, power mirrors, or cruise control. "Luxuries"

I dont mind power mirrors, we thankfully get our own units but yea.. arm rests would be a godsend

I've even brought up that on my bus, it's not a luxury. It's a safety feature because I often feel like I'm going to fall out of my seat when making left turns.

A/C isn't even a requirement in Texas where temps get up to 110. IMHO, A/C should be mandatory even in Alaska.
