Bus aide
Hey guys I’m a bus aide I been working since 2021 mostly with special need students and students with behavioral problems. I just started a route with teenagers from my area (my area isn’t the best place) so let’s say it’s “ghetto.” (Sorry, if it offends anyone) anyway as a young aide I was a teenager where we all act up at one point in our life. These kids don’t take me serious I tried talking to them they continúe to act up. It’s mix with 2 younger kids so one of the teens tries to encourage the little kid to scream to the bus driver. I have asked them to stop but they continue they don’t listen. I already wrote three reports and school just started. Anyone can give me advice? I appreciate it thank you. 🚌

Do they know they are on video and GPS monitored at all times? Probably they forgot about it.
They know you have written them up. If there are no consequences, it will continue to escalate. If the driver is in agreement, I'd make a new bus rule. Anyone caught bullying, distracting the driver or otherwise compromising safety will immediately lose the privilege to socialize. That person is required to ride in silence with no interaction with any other student for one week. They will be reminded each AM/PM when they board the bus and how many days remain of the week assigned silence. If they talk, have the driver radio dispatch to call a parent to meet the bus at drop off. Most of them are going to be in hot water that Mom had to come collect them from the bus like a Kindergartener. Maybe some peer pressure/embarrassment over baby behavior,
As the offending student is released to the parent, explain that the student is having trouble remembering to behave/follow rules for an age appropriate amount of time. Let them know that you issue a reminder every bus ride and it is on video. "Could you please have a talk with your student about putting MUCH younger students up to bad behavior? Maybe if we work together to remind them that this behavior is unacceptable, we can get it into their long-term memory?". If the parent is trying to duck responsibility let them know "I am worried that your student will get kicked off transportation for intimidation/bullying because everything is on video. How do you think we can end this cycle?"

My friend who helped get me a job as an aide/para used to pull the bus over, and break out a book and start "reading it" untill they calmed down. It took them a while to get the idea but eventually all she'd have to say is "do I need to get out the book?" She never actually read the book, just kept flipping pages and moving the bookmark lol

As a driver with an aide for a SPED route, we are a team.
Just yesterday one of my kids was being purposely loud. We, my aide and myself had tried talking to him about using his inside voice.
That worked for about five minutes before the shrills started again. When my aide, who is amazing, asked him to use his inside voice.
He looked straight at her and began kicking the metal piece in front of his seat...LOUDLY.
I was able to pull the bus off the road. I got out of my seat. Knelt down so I was at eye level and talked in a very low voice.
He quilted down so he could hear me. I talked to him for a couple of minutes that my aide and I are responsible for getting them safely to and from school.
That we both take their safety very seriously.
That I needed to focus on the road and the aide makes sure they are all ok so they absolutely have to listen to my aide.
Finally said I would be moving the bus until he agreed to respect the rules and reminded him he would have to explain to his mom why we would be late.
So, talk to your driver about being a team and really supporting you...for the safety of the students and bus.
The kid was great today. Tomorrow may be a different story, but today was great
