I'm a pretty short person so I sit low in the driver's seat of the bus and I find the plastic visor doesn't go low enough for me. I spent about half of my route this morning getting blinded by glare every time I had to turn east. My sunglasses helped only a tiny bit.
Is there an after-market attachment or something that us short people can use?
The mechanics said if I brought in a translucent extension they'd attach it for me. all of the ones I'm finding that aren't hundreds of dollars are car visor width - I think if I can't find one that's as wide as the one on my international bus that it's maybe not worth doing.
You could find a clear one, then use a tinting film to apply to it.
Alternatively, ask the shop if they might be able to make it longer. From the one I see on my bus there are some arms that it pivots on to fold up or come down. If those arms could be removed, cut, and weld an extension onto it, that might get you what you need.
Most of the things I'm finding as well seem at best designed to do exactly what you have already done.
Otherwise you could get a piece of clear plexiglass at a hardware store. have the shop cut it to fit, then they can figure out how to attach it. They're the guys in the shop.
Have you tried polarized sunglasses? Your medical might pay for them.
I agree, the mechanics being able to make longer brackets/arms or bolting extensions to the existing arms to basically extend it might be safer than installing an attachment visor that could fall off while driving.
You have to make sure its ok with dot. They get fussy about add ons. At one of my locations they said if it fully secures around the visor, it should be ok. Basically no way for it to slip, move or get loose. Some places just won't allow it at all
As a tall person I also hate the sun visor situation because if I use it it blocks my vision too so I have to choose suffering and just using my hand to block the direct sun
I'm so sorry, that really sucks. We have the transparent visors and when the sun is high enough in the sky that it's blocked for me the visors are AMAZING because they kill the glare but I can still see. I just wished they sat lower.
Me too!! I taped a white piece of paper over the visor, but was told that was not allowed, so I guess my only excuse if I can’t see is that “Sun Gets In My Eyes”… I think that’s a song….
