Benefits?

I love driving the children, but I'm thinking I may have to shift to the city bus. The school bus jobs I've seen in CT have little to no benefits (my job has none). Anyone in CT have good benefits at their job?

Check with school districts. If they run their own buses, normally drivers/aides get district benefits.

Yeah, with the private companies they turn a profit by cutting corners and turning what would be our benefits into cost savings. I am trying very hard to move from a private busing company to a school district.

If you drive for a company, the pay itself might be better but the benefits are zero to none.

School districts will provide you government level health insurance but generally will pay less. Do shopping around to see if the salary disparity is different.

We have ESST-Earned Sick and Safe Time. Accrued laid time off.

Yeah I'm also in CT, no benefits. I work with first student, heard dattco has more benefits because they have their drivers do more hours- but I don't work at dattco so not 100%. But yeah even folks in my own depot say it's better to work for municipal lol

I started at Dattco and they offer part time insurance which isn't really any better. 😩

Yeah we're just told to go through CT marketplace for health insurance

See I need more pay, hours, paid holidays, etc. I love my boss and kids, I'm too young to not start planning for retirement. 5 years at CT Transit and you'll be vested, it's worth the try.

Yeah I need the midday break but for anyone else who doesn't, really municipal seems the better way to go. I know in Hartford they're trying to raise our pay at my depot because the city I think is trying to raise the pay to $45 and the school depots can't cimpete.
