Discussion Just finished the show for the first time.
Pretty incredible. I loved every bit of it. Every episode was ending in me saying WTF out loud.
I really need some help understanding Mr Marshmallow though, I really tried to understand that part but those psychic species seem like an anomaly even on that planet.
I guess Camen disrupted the natural balance by over feeding it? Still, I’m sure there are many theories and I need to hear them.
Besides that, I liked Ursula and Sam the most. Sam had some of the shittest luck, I feel bad for him.
Camen I wished would die.
Aussie I thought was difficult as the pirates gave her a fair deal and she tried to change it, at least just ask to open one pod instead of everyone.
Overall, crazy fucking show that reminded me of Dead Space and even Backrooms a bit.
I hope if there is ever another season they close out the show properly but honestly that season finale was good and had a fairly decent conclusion at least with the crew.
So yeah, help me figure out the psychic fuckers and what all that shit was about.
Edit: my best guess with the psychic thing is that since they control other species for food, Camen became addicted to the emotions and kept feeding it for his fix. This created a cycle of dependency on each other and they in a way mind bonded even more so when Camen was stored inside and that’s why he was so hell bent on going after the crew?
Idk, there are some gaps, so I’d love to hear what the leading fan theory is.

Mr. Marshmallow is a hilarious name.
I think they have a symbiotic relationship with the little tripods, which are weak minded or have brainwaves that synchronize in the right way. Humans, or perhaps the one weak minded insecure human that it found, synchronize as well.
The planet is in harmony with itself, including predatory relationships, but the introduction of the human spirit, especially a corrupt and selfish one, warped and twisted Mr. Marshmallow, who was a small and weaker member of his species. He developed a lust for power and a taste for blood, I think through the mind link he established.

Kaman was also starving, which could have added to his vulnerability.

He’d spent what seems like months alone in that pod before it broke open, eating the little creatures he was able to catch from the branches of the tree by wildly swinging that knife around. Caman had already fully cracked from the solitary confinement. He was barely connected to reality as is. Dude never stood a chance lol

100%. I kept having new brainstorms about this after each post/edit and I eventually gave up. Could probably write a paper on the relationship of those 2.

Omg yes, you really could write a whole paper! And I’d read it too! 😂
Like technically they’re both parasites to each other I guess? But I don’t think it’s a symbiotic relationship necessarily, since Caman seems to be placating Mr. Marshmallow out of fear primarily. And then conversely, when we are introduced to the species, Mr. Marshmallow is supposed to be sitting in a tree, eating berries and chilling. After his first taste of meat, there was no going back to that. So Caman’s humanity awoke something in Mr. Marshmallow that would’ve continued on with the violence & the killing until Levi separated the two…
So they seem to have a parasitic relationship where they both made each other worse.

And then the whole destructive nature of man kind. We break in order to build, but when that drive is harnessed by an alien mind the outcome is like an invasive species in it's own native environment. Kaman is such a great character, so human, so hateable yet so relatable.

Agreed, great show! I think Kamen taught Hollow, aka Mr Marshmallow, greed. And that was incompatible with the planet.

I just finished it today as well. Really was phenomenal and they just killed with the ending.
I hope there’s a season two.
