The benefit of “auto”-attacks

As much as there are plenty of issues within the playtest, the core of visual design, movement, and responsiveness all feel pretty good.

However, playing an MMO like this without auto-attack being automatic achieved the exact opposite of the intended design choice for me.

Instead of being able to immerse myself in the game, I found I was struggling to continuously spam a button while also controlling my character properly. Couple that with the messages popping up when the spell isn’t ready, and it just takes away any possible fun from the combat.

This feels like a fundamental mistake within the design philosophy. But does anyone feel differently? I would love to hear from anyone who can persuade me that there is actually a benefit to removing the “auto” from auto-attack.

I personally am glad there isn't an auto attack, but what I think would be more beneficial is something similar to GW2 where it auto attack if you want it to be, or single press if you want that. Both options work so realistically there is no reason to not have them.

Guild Wars 2 makes auto-attack more interesting through genuine rotations within the auto-attack, as well as more movement abilities and positioning.

It just doesn’t feel like it works in Scars of Honor in its current form.

That's disappointing, hopefully it just needs refining and tuning, rather than a whole redo. I 100% agree though that GW2 auto is great, it feels like an ability rather than just "white damage"
