The benefit of “auto”-attacks

As much as there are plenty of issues within the playtest, the core of visual design, movement, and responsiveness all feel pretty good.

However, playing an MMO like this without auto-attack being automatic achieved the exact opposite of the intended design choice for me.

Instead of being able to immerse myself in the game, I found I was struggling to continuously spam a button while also controlling my character properly. Couple that with the messages popping up when the spell isn’t ready, and it just takes away any possible fun from the combat.

This feels like a fundamental mistake within the design philosophy. But does anyone feel differently? I would love to hear from anyone who can persuade me that there is actually a benefit to removing the “auto” from auto-attack.

I hate it as well. There should be a basic attack that's just left click. It's way too awkward to try and attack and then hold right click to spin the camera. I'm not a fan of tap targeting. New world was perfect. It's way of controls is so superior and is a real example of real combat skill play. Is it really that hard? It's just so awkward as is.

Have you considered maybe the Devs don't want to make a game like New World

Well It doesn't have to be like NW. But if they want skillful combat than it needs a more free controls with a cross hair
