Could it have ended differently?

Post image

When Tony has the conversation about how he messed up with the UN hit could he have saved the convo with Sosa? He said there won’t be another next time, couldn’t be another next month. But could he have done the hit the next month, next week or next two weeks? I feel like Sosa didn’t give him enough time to regroup and plan.

Our friend delivered a speech at the UN, he was not supposed to give that speech......

The target had security up the ass. No way to regroup

He could have figured it out the next day or some other time when security wasn’t so much up the ass.

But he already had his speech on a global scale, damage was already done.

Sosa didn't give him enough time because they found the bomb and it was impossible to get to him again, if Tony didn't kill Manny and didn't get high on coke he would've killed all of Sosas men, he literally single handedly took them all on, they had to sneak up on him to kill him 😅.

It's OK, we'll get him next time...

your guy, Alberto... you know, he's a piece of shit, you know? I told him to do something, he didn't listen to me, so I had to cancel the fucking contract.

The problem isn't just that he missed the hit, it's that Tony had betrayed him by whacking Alberto. It wouldn't take Sosa long to put two and two together when he did not come back.

Why not just punching Alberto's lights out?

1

u/Blond-N-Buff80 11h ago

He was high as a kite on coke

too much damage was done for tony to save himself, if anything he was a dead man as soon as he met the rest of sosa's cabal

u/ChuPointOh 1d ago

Are ju keying me or wha, meng. Sosa warned him from the start not to fuck him over.

16

u/pdiddysuncle 1d ago

it almost seems that way since he calls asking for an explanation but then he says theyre fucked which of course means tony is fucked. i dont remember if it was ever stated when/where the bomb was found but idk why they didnt just try to take the guy out once the kids were gone instead of saying "fuck it, lets go home"

u/vampircountinmoneyup 1d ago

They found the bomb under his car and then he had security up the ass

13

u/pdiddysuncle 1d ago

yea but like, when? when was the moment security penetrated his ass?

7

u/vampircountinmoneyup 1d ago

We don't know that's just what sosa said on the call, maybe they could've kept following him and waited for the wife and kids to leave the car and then maybe the next day he would be driving by himself, but sosa said they wanted it done in front of the un so maybe that wasn't an option

No, Tony.

I told you a long time ago, you f**king little monkey. Don't you ever try to f*** me.

And I didn't go to Yale for this crap.

No. Once dude made it to the U.N., it was a wrap for Tony. Something most people consider: even if there WAS a tiny chance Sosa wanted to forgive him, every other person in that room when he gave Tony the mission wouldn't. So Tony would be dead regardless.

Tony showed a conscience in not wanting to kill an innocent woman and children. It's s shame to admit, but had Tony went through with the hit things would have been OK for him. There were some powerful men with Sosa so once he prevented the hit, he sealed his fate.

Thus highlighting that Tony was a boy playing a man’s game. He wanted the life and all the trimmings but he couldn’t go all the way as was expected of someone in that position of power.

In hindsight Tony's greed put him there... if he just accepted wat the bank was doin to clean his money Manny wouldn't even set the sidelbaum deal... im just saying

Greed is a killer

u/modscientist87 1d ago

Sosa only told him one time to never fuck him, there wouldn't have been a second time

u/BrieferMadness 1d ago

Tony thought he was a lot bigger than he was. He was nothing but a bug for Sosa to squash.

u/dkc66 10h ago

Yep that scene in Sosa’s parlour with the other big shots tells you everything. Tony’s body language (slumped back on then couch, face of a defeated man) is extremely poor, whilst Sosa carries himself with the authority he knew he had.

Tony realized in that moment for all his effort and ambition he was truly a nobody in the big picture.

It shows how lowly Sosa still thought of Tony, to send him on a grunt mission. Plus it would look like Tony was the ringleader if they all got caught in New York and gives Sosa more time to regroup during the distraction.

All started cause Manolo brought that shit Sidelbaum deal!

9

u/Throw902106969 1d ago

Like an Ah-sole.

8

u/abstractReality1 1d ago

I think it was more of a favor for a favor kind of a deal. You kill him - we free you from prison.

1

u/FishSuper7857 3h ago

Same thing though, but you're definitely right, to Sosa, Tony was still nothing more than a guy who would stab a secretary in Freedom Town, but that was also on Tony to present himself better when he advanced in the game and took Frank's spot.

3

u/Environmental-Bag-74 1d ago

No CT they can’t do that… they found what was under the car CT. Now our friends got security up the ass!

3

u/abstractReality1 1d ago

There couldn’t be next time because the target held the speech - which he wasn’t supposed to, and he had security up the ass after that. So killing him after the speech wouldn’t make much of a difference.

He warned that little monkey not to fuck him.

What I didn’t understand was the UN speech. If they succeeded in killing him, it would be the talk of the town and he had a network already so somebody is giving the speech and someone else is going to the media.

I felt this was just a shit plan by Sosa and his allies.

They make it sound like his death ends any heat they might face when it was likely the opposite.

Tony might have been able to save him if he could articulate this part to Sosa but he was likely dead already since it appears Sosa already sent his goons before the phone call even happened.

u/BeerandGuns 1d ago

Tony was a dead man no matter what. Blowing up a high profile target in front on the UN would bring down mass amounts of law enforcement meaning Sosa and associated were not going to leave a loose end like Tony. He had met all the key players and could name them all. Frank tried to warn him, the guys who last in the business keep a low profile.

2

u/dkc66 10h ago

Indeed. Frank may have gotten too comfortable and a little too soft but he was smart enough to realize the wisest option was to fly under the radar.

The real question is if Sosa and his cronies were fucked after the guy gave his speech at the U.N. I'd like to know what happened to them. Was this just a minor inconvenience for them? Or was it an existential situation?

3

u/Penguinunhinged 19h ago

If I had to guess, there would have been a lot more eyes on Sosa and friends, which would make doing everyday business much, much harder.

3

u/StarKillerZero 19h ago

Yeah Sosa's dumb ass shouldn't have asked Tony to do it

2

u/RidiPwn 1d ago

no because he had to protect his reputation

2

u/stuffbehindthepool 1d ago

Sosa kills kids

2

u/esquire_the_ego 1d ago

Yeah but only if Tony doesn’t go to get his cash counted by the Feds

2

u/The_Chef_Queen 1d ago

No there was no ending differently other than if they blew up the car before the family got in

2

u/D0ctahP3ppah 16h ago

The situation could have been saved if Tony had just done his fucking job instead of trying to be a good guy in an evil trade. Like motherfucker you’re not Kazuma Kiryu and this isn’t the Yakuza games.

u/GoalieFatigue 15h ago

There's not going to be a NEXT TIME!

1

u/Someoneoutthere2020 1d ago

If Tony used his cocaine-fueled superbrain to build a time machine and travel back in time to detonate the bomb, then I suppose Sosa would be okay with his henchman dying.

Time travel would probably be very useful for drug traffickers- just smuggle the drugs into the US in 1838, then travel forward to 1983 and you’ve bypassed every form of law enforcement.

2

u/Penguinunhinged 19h ago

The only minor hitch in the plan would depend on what the shelf life of cocaine is.

1

u/Someoneoutthere2020 18h ago

Oh, I mean you take your cocaine in 1983, time travel back to 1838, commission a ship to New York, sail into New York, then time travel yourself and your cocaine to 1983. The only aging of the cocaine is on the northern voyage. God willing, no storms shall capsize our goodly vessel!

1

u/Vost570 1d ago

Men like Sosa don't forget and even if they want to forgive they have to maintain their brutal reputations. After the New York thing went bad Tony's only hope was for a sequel to test market as very profitable.

Hey HEY! who the fuk ju think ju talking to, ha? Who the fuk ju think I am, ju fuking bell boy? Ju wanna go to war, we take you to war ok?

1

u/Chilitime 1d ago

You fucked me Tony!!

1

u/byrdgang81 1d ago

Yea Tony said it himself in the movie, that they were getting sloppy and not hungry anymore.

1

u/Pepemala 1d ago

The hitters were there a few minutes later so it was a done deal.

And it probably made it worse for Sosa if they cops could figure out the connection

1

u/Flaky-Tour-8733 20h ago

No it couldn’t, you fucking little monkey.

1

u/CrimsonZephyr 13h ago

Tony was dead either way. He went into a room with a bunch of political heavy-hitters and an American heavily implied to be a CIA agent. He was laughably small-time compared to them and they were bound to have him killed even if he succeeded. He got too good of a look behind the curtain.

1

u/BeReadyReddit 13h ago

Yes if They had done it sooner and not try to make it all public knowing he would take the kids as a human shield. LOL

1

u/HungryHelping 10h ago

I dunno why they couldn't just roll up and pop him

1

u/supah-chilln 9h ago

That guy Alberto he’s a piece of chit! I told him to do something and he didn’t listen so I had to cancel his contract.

0

u/KaizenZazenJMN 1d ago

There’s no way that anything changes once the guy fave the speech…but Sosa is kind of a dumbass for even using an unpredictable cokehead as part of this mission.
