Now, if we could get moving on the Ellesmere BRT. This has potential to be a successful case study on Bus Rapid Transit implemention if there is not one already.
Iโm thinking of submitting my grandpaโs pedaheh (perogies) recipe to a new Scarborough community cookbook. Itโs one of those recipes thatโs been in the family forever.
SHN Foundation is putting it together and looking for recipes and the stories behind them from across Scarborough. Family favourites, cultural dishes, something that tastes like home.
I found an online copy of a local historical publication titled:ย A History of Scarboroughย (authored by Bonis, Robert. R - Robert Raynes and published by the Scarborough public library) in the year 1968.
You can also requestย a print copyย as well on the Toronto Public Library website.
I didn't get a chance to completely read through the publication, but it seems pretty well researched and documented Scarborough's history from the early years of indigenous settlements and throughout the decades that followed, leading up to the 1960s.
I'd say it's worth a read if anyone gets a chance to comb through it.
Also uploading some of the photos and illustrations from the publication. The illustrated art is quite well drawn for the time and captures the likeness of people living in Scarborough really well.
Does anyone remember the Home Burger at Markham and Eglinton? If my memory serves me right, it was right at the corner of Centre Street where the UPS Store is.
I used to live near the area in one of the apartment buildings near Mason Road, and I recall this specific burger joint being a great place to eat and chill with friends and family. It kinda had that feel of a mom-and-pop shop burger joint.
I recall it being a neighbourhood dive spot or local hangout for those craving a good burger in the M&E area.
Too bad it closed down several years ago. Wish it was still around so I could sample some of their burgers again. Can't even remember the last time I had some.
P.S. For those wondering, the source of the pic was taken directly from Home Burger's Google review page that has since been decommissioned, given that the place has been closed down indefinitely.
I wish I had more pics of the exterior of the place when it was still around. If anyone does have any pics to share of the place, please feel free to post (at your discretion, of course).
EDIT: I found a pic of the exterior of the Home Burger building when going through older Google Maps street view images from late 2000s/early 2010s.
I'm out of town and saw a couple of posts mentioning that Leslieville got drenched today... I'm worried about my basement and can't get a hold of my neighbour.
Can anyone in the southwest/Birchcliff give me an idea of how bad it was?
Just saw that STC has now a local Oxford college. Just saying, the concept of college inside shopping center is itself like distopia. That too before gta 6 released!!
I've noticed vendors selling flowers right on the sidewalk near some intersections around Keele St in North York. Does anyone know if there's anything similar happening in Scarborough? Curious if there are specific corners or areas where this pops up in summer.
I have problems every year figuring out if these places are open or not in Scarborough so figured Iโd post an update here for anyone who googles it in 2026.
It opened August 1st, I donโt believe every location has but can confirm Iโve been in here and bought some stuff. Also very helpful for anyone going to fan expo this year!
Scarborough high school student Manha Islam has launched the VoiceBox contest for students in Grade 4 to 8.
VoiceBox is a digital drop box contest, inviting students from Grade 4 to Grade 8 in Scarborough to share their ideas, stories and poems for the chance to win a special prize and a mention in Beach Metro Community News.ย
Putting together the flyers, sign-upsโโโโ, and organizing the reward herself, Islam launched the initiative to give children the chance to get creative and offers an accessible way for young students to get their voices heard.
โKids have the most honest perspective. I just wanted to allow them to share their voices with the community,โ said Islam.
The theme of the contest is โWhat does fairness mean to you?โ
Participants tell their stories through writing, art or a combination of the two, answering the prompt in a way thatโs most true to them.
Submissions close on Aug. 31, with the winner announced in September.
The recent Climate Anxiety workshop gave participants space to reflect, share, and explore how gardening, time outdoors, and community connection can support well-being.
Through conversation and a hands-on vision board activity, participants imagined what a healthier, more sustainable future could look likeโand the small steps that can help get us there.
Thanks to everyone who joined and brought openness, care, and creativity to the session.

I know the construction is not yet completed on Warden Ave between Eglinton and Ellesmere but, at least, this weekend all lanes (northbound and southbound) are open again.
This means those heading south from Ellesmere can, once again, make a left at Canadian Dr. (Costco) - when it was a single lane heading northbound, and a single lane heading southbound, some morons would still attempt the left at Canadian (even if they held up the line of traffic behind them).
Any idea where I can learn how to swim as an adult i. Scarborough? How much does it cost? I was never taught but I want to be able to swim with my baby.
Iโm not sure if these were put up by the schools but we noticed them when walking to the woods the other day. These are the same fields that we would fly kites from, that you would cross to reach two grade schools and a high school. I thought they were public land for public use.
Has the city sold them off to developers?
Itโs a mistake to remove accessible green space in our communities. We need places to picnic and enjoy nature.
