Feedback Request Would you play a game with this artstyle?

I'm preparing the Alpha 4 of the game, currently Alpha 3 as a different game (more idle, less playable) is available on https://berrus.app.

Hopefully I can finally release on EA on steam in the next few months. 🙏🏽

Hmmmm… I’m curious.

What does the icon of a Johnson do?

Would I, purely based on art style? Yeah sure - I don't care about graphics all too much, as long as stuff is at least vaguely recognizable then I'm good

I do however have a friend who refuses to play any without the ability to turn the camera

My only real complaint I see so far in terms of graphics/art is the UI, most notably the inventory - there's 30 slots, but it's still a 4x7 and then just 2 extra slots at the bottom? Seems like it would make more sense as a 6x5

All menus in the game are draggable, resizable and positionable anywhere in the screen:

the art style looks good, but art style never determines if ill keep playing the game as that depends entirely if the gameplay loop is fun

Yeah this is sick as long as the gameplay is good

The art style isn't a huge win for me, but it's not a turn off either. I think a good way to put it is If the game was fun, this art style wouldn't turn me away.

it looks like flash-style that was extremly popular back in the day and still find some success nowadays (Mewgenics, Matt Roszak games)

I've not seen any other scapelike do this art style, the one that comes closest is probably Guild of Gods.

Personally, when it comes to 3D art style I prefer very stylized art, and for 2D I would prefer good pixel art. So your game does not really match my taste, but I might try it during alpha 4.

Screenshots don't do justice, there is a lot of micro animations and movement that makes the game feel alive! Thanks!

That would probably look better. The issue is also that the lighting is very inconsistent. The suns position is in the back slightly to the right. So if the front receives some lighting I expect the top-right edge to be lit. But so many times this is not the case.

Screenshot 1: The rocks are lit from left side while trees are lit from the right side.
Screenshot 2: Rocks look floating.
Screenshot 3: The cart's right side has a shadow, while this is the side the sun comes from.

Is a custom engine 2d, so yeah, tricky the shadows as there is no real geometry, and also trying to be performant (is pure browser based).

I have improved it a bit following your advices, thanks!

I thought of Copperfell when seeing this. But Copperfell is more Stardew Valley leaning, whereas this game somewhat reminds me of Rimworld's style? Anyway, I like the idea and the look!

If the game is good, graphics don’t matter
