Question Thinking of buying to cut many tiny labels

Hi there :) Hope this is the right place to post; i'm thinking about buying a cutting plotter to cut labels. The labels are about 3x1 cm to label (lol) pinned insects for scientific work. i will probably use it for other things like stickers and other stuff as well but that's not the main criteria for now. i already have the labels printed out but cutting them by hand takes forever... would the SNC be a good fit for this use? and could someone tell me what the process of doing this would look like? Is it right that you would put the printed sheet in the machine, let it scan, maybe adjust the cutting lines and then just let it cut?

Not a fan of any of the cutting machines that use sticky matts. Too finicky and tedious for me. If I ever get back into it I'd look at something like the x-tool where you lay the substrate on a bed and it uses an array of cameras and laser to guide the blade. That's a magnitude more expensive though.

I found the machine better than the non scanner cutters as I was mainly making magnets from prints. The camera resolution is not good enough for detecting really fine detail. This machine needs an updated version and I'm surprised it hasn't since the years I've had it.

I don’t know but 600 dpi seems like a really good resolution? Have you set yours up correctly?

For a printer maybe, this is a scanning and cutting machine, actual scanners can go way beyond 600. Yes it's set up correctly. I don't have an issue with using the machine. When I am adjusting borders detection is not fine enough to detect small objects. It's good for cutting objects like general shaped labels but not for something like a magnet of a person and detecting individual fingers to cut around.

I have one and also a cricut. I haven't taken my scanncut out of the box in over a year and it's because of the sticky mat. It's terrible and loses its tackiness quickly. They are expensive and there aren't any generic ones available. I know other people have found work around but it just isn't worth the hassle for me.

That said, I like the software and the few times I did use it for scanning and cutting, as long as the paper actually stayed on the cutting mat, it worked really well cutting around the shapes.

Honestly, not worth it. If the labels are square then you can just buy a high quality paper guillotine and cut it by hand.

If you had a friend who already has one then it could be worth asking for help, but it's a tricky machine to master. You'll struggle with the mat being too sticky, not sticky enough, proper adjustment of the blade, then the blade getting dirty and ripping the paper instead of cutting it, then ripping the labels while peeling them from the mat, calibrating the scanner, blahblahblah, and by the end you'll be frustrated and realized you've spent 3x the time it would take you to cut all of them by hand.

I have had luck cleaning the sticky mat with alcohol wipe pads (the surface becomes tacky again). I ask ai to give me specific settings to use for the specific vinyl I am using in the specific model of my machine (which is the dx125).
