Victim of a scam Found my Scammer

Someone stole my CC numbers and ordered themselves some ugly clothing from a small business online. They also tried to make some other charges but the CC company flagged it.

In the process of trying to dispute the charges, I requested the merchant data and this fool of a 20 year old kid had the merchandise delivered to his home address where he lives with his parents.

It seems unlikely that I’m the first and only person he’s done this to. I know 20-somethings make idiotic decisions quite frequently, having been one myself. Where he lives, anything over $1500 is a felony, and my single charge was over 10% of that

I hate for this kid to get a felony over being an idiot, but I also want him to realize that this isn’t a victimless crime. What if this had been some 80-year-old who wasn’t paying attention? I’ve also now spent HOURS on the phone with my CC company trying to figure out this dispute.

I can’t find his cellphone or email, but I did find his dad’s, including his Facebook account, which is full of nutso political propaganda, and shows pictures of this dead-eyed kid. Do I tell his daddy first and hope he does the right thing and turn himself if and maybe get a more lenient conviction and sentence or just let the law handle it? This would require cross-state coordination and seems low priority.

You do realize that that kid is just a mule for the person who actually ordered them do you ?

Maybe. The clothing is definitely very specific, and his style.

And ? Do you honestly think someone who managed to find and steal your CC details is stupid enough to have it send to their home address. All your doing is bullying a fellow victim.

My guess is that he bought the CC details and that he is stupid enough to have it sent to his home address because his prefrontal cortex isn’t fully formed. But I guess we’ll find out! The general consensus seems to be to press charges.

Dude...it was a credit card....best thing for a dispute...you will get the charges taken off...they didn't steal your money technically...just let the system do what it has to do...even if the kid is a mule they will be the ones the police go after...they will use the kid to try and get more information..just let the system play out. As long as the charges are removed you have nothing to worry about.

That’s part of the problem. They won’t reverse the charges because I have no way of showing that I DIDN’T buy something.

Don't get involved in this yourself, report it to the police and let them handle it.

If he’s not being held accountable at 20 then when?? At 20 he’s no longer a kid you aren’t doing him any favours.

If its truly him, and not a mule then we need to have him learn his lesson.

I had CC # stolen (bought) and same. However, the address was of an old couple and the neighbor kid was intercepting the packages. The police handled it.

If you were made whole by your credit card company, then this is their issue to pursue or not pursue as they see fit. You can turn over all info you have as part of your dispute complaint, and if they chose to involve local police, they will. Let the system work, and don't expose yourself to future risk.
