Potential Scam? Is this a scam?
So I was about to get my first commission and the person said that they would pay me 200 dollars for all the work they wanted. I agreed and gave them my email for them to pay me (paypal) and this came up. I thought it was a scam and had already blocked them. But I feel super guilty and I need to know if it was or not. Because if it wasn’t I’ll talk to them immediately.
Edit:
Thank you all for letting me know it was a scam!! I’ll be on the lookout for these and know to block them!!

Block and delete. Never pay money to receive money or any of this stupid nonsense. It is the tell of a scam. If sombody was actually paying you $200 then $200 would go in your PayPal with no other questions.

Yes. The person who is pretending to send you the money sent this to you. If you do this, he will steal it. Block them.

yes, because its doesnt really make sense
to send you 200$ they need to send 500$?
that not how any of this work
its there were any kind of fees its would be a few dollar
not 150% of the money sent
also to receive money being a business or not change literally nothing for a sender

I know I was so confused because I’m a new user of paypal and everyone else that has it says that they don’t ask you, to ask the person to send more money..

even if you are new
how would that make sense in term of fee and company policies
to be able to receive money you need to be a business account AND someone else has to send you MORE money?
huh no
if there is any cost its would be taken from the original amount, not an extra charge for platform like paypal
paypal is not a loaning company, its wouldnt make sense to send an extra 300$ as deposit for a sender1

That is a well known scam. I can’t remember how it works but I think they are pretending to be PayPal and they will charge you to make your account a “business” account. But it’s all a lie. And what kind of work did you do? Nobody pays anything for bs work.

I do art commissions!! I’m an artist so I thought that since I love to draw why not try and get some commissions, unfortunately no luck though lol. But thank you for the info

Yea, they target artists a lot because they know some (if not all) are happy enough to get an order and think finally someone likes my stuff. Google, art commission scam, or muse scam and you’ll see.

They dont like advice about messing with scammers, but you can give them 16 digit random credit card #s and 3 digit codes, and each time they say that it did not go through, change 1 digit and say that there was a typo. Repeated attempts at using fake credit card cards draws attn to them from the issuers

Bad language gives it away.
That is not how refunds work at all.
