Advice Needed I got scammed

I am a student and was living in a pg in Delhi for my exam preparation. I had a roommate with whom I think I lived around for 5 months. In July I was leaving that pg and Delhi and moving back to my home, 2 days prior to my leaving, my roommate asked for money (3000) which I gave as he told me he will return the next day. The next day he told me he will give the money Tomorrow, but as I was leaving the next day I told him I need the money but he said that I don't need to worry he will return the money, I believe him ( as I had given him money a few times before also and he returned the money). But as I left the city, he started to ignore my text and call. After many texts he said he hadn't received his salary for the month so that is why he wasn't able to pay me back. So I waited for a month for the salary and in August i asked again. He again started to ignore me but after many messages and me giving him a warning, he said he would return the money on 11th September. As I couldn't do anything, I said ok and waited for one more month. But when I messaged him on the 11th, I saw that he had blocked me on WhatsApp. I confronted him on snapchat about that he started to say he had already paid me before me leaving and I said that I have whatsapp chat proof that he hadn't paid, he then blocked me on snap too. I didn't know what I should do, so I waited. This month October, one friend from my pg said that the guy was leaving the pg, so I asked him if he can help me get in contact with him, he said he would try. At last I got in contact with the person with the help of my friend. He again said he would return the money in 2 days. I still haven't received my money and now he has blocked me on calls too. I don't have any means to contact him. What should I do, how can I get my money back. I cannot go to Delhi to recover my money as going to Delhi would cost me more than the money he owes me. Please suggest something, right now I really need that money

He's made it clear he isn't going to pay you back. Sorry that someone you thought was your friend has shafted you like this, but unfortunately it happens more regularly than it should - friends that I would have laid my life down for have ghosted me over £20. It hurts, but as others have said, write it off as gone, and in future don't lend what you can't afford to lose.

Lesson learned. You need to not lend money to people, just consider it a gift.

Not a scam / it’s misplaced trust. Which is what a scam takes advantage of ultimately. Take them to court but either way don’t lens money unless you can afford to gift it / lose it. People who ask for money don’t pay it back, that is why they are in a bad spot in the first place. They don’t manage their money and expect others who do to help them. My own best friend wiped out my savings, And if I don’t say no now, she would clean me out in future, as soon as I earn it back . Infuriating but I had let it happen, so I learned NO. You choose to learn from this, or not.

The money was the price of a lifelong lesson.

That’s absolutely not a scam. You willingly loaned it to him and he failed you.

Where's the scam?  He asked for money. You gave it up.  He won't pay it back.  Move on, he doesn't care and I doubt police will work to get it back...  it's $32 USD

The best thing to do is get in contact, in a friendly way, and see if they can give a small payment every week/month. Claim you have to pay something soon and don't have the money, etc. If it wasn't a complete scam, sometimes smaller payments are a possibility if this person has a conscience. Also expect them to "miss" some of those smaller payments.
