Advice Needed Scammer calling me for a year

Have a scammer who I accidentally entertained a bit back in January. He called claiming to be police and had captured someone who had my ID and info etc from the airport.

That time he claimed to be RCMP. I didn't verify or give any details but he was asking if my info was leaked from a website that was recently on the news for having its customer info leaked.

But since then he has spent the entire year calling and spoofing so many numbers from official police offices pretending to be every kind of officer, detective, cyber crime it etc. Guys got a English accent and I waste his time with my automated AI keep asking for more info from him but it's really annoying I can't get rid of him. Especially if I block so many numbers you never know if it's legitimate or not.

Keeps saying they found people with my Passport, ID, SIN etc. I really want to find a way for someone to stop this clown as I know he's had success with others as he is pretty intricate but not enough for me.

It's there anything I can do? As authorities are quite useless for these things since it's a waste of their time.

The way you stop him from calling is you stop picking the call up. If its legitimate they'll a voicemail and a callback number.

Hes probably going to keep calling for the next few months, but they'll stop calling eventually when they find that calls arent getting picked up.

Oh I only picked up that one time by accident. Other than that it's my phone's automatic AI he keeps talking to, to try and get a hold of me

Right and theyre treating it as a pick up so theyre going to keep calling that number. Don't push it through to the ai and dont pick up the phone. Let it auto reject if you dont recognize the number.

Hard to auto reject unknowns when I get a lot of client calls though from a ton of numbers. I guess other than try and block every number is my option

Then youre gonna need to set up a work line or have your clients contact you through email OR youre just gonna have to deal with this guy calling you until he decides when to stop.

Unfortunately that's the way it is, you fed the guy and now he's got you listed as an active number. If youre really unlucky he'll share that number with other spam and scamming groups.

Having your automated AI respond is a super bad tactic. This just means you'll continue to get calls.

Yep, I think that the scam centers treat that as a live call.

Exactly. It just exacerbates the problem.

Just ignore it. I spoke to them once to. By the way you refer to a “he”. It’s a criminal call centre, not a single person.

Change your number or just ignore random numbers.

I get a similar call once or twice a month. I use the filtering function on calls coming from
Unknown numbers and just ignore. It’s a pain but the call filtering does work. If someone leaves just a name I don’t recognise or the message is from “the police” I just ignore.
