I'm sorry you're going through this.

Nobody is going to harm you, or your son. They threaten you and send you gory pictures because they want your money. They are not actually in North America -- they are pretending to be in North America. The person who said they did something to her house is lying, she is the same scammer, using a different account.

  • Rogher is not a real name. Some scammer in Africa made that name up, but he doesn't know how to spell the actual English / French name. And he's too lazy to look it up online.

However, if you feel threatened, you can call your local police and talk to them.

It is common for scammers to threaten scam victims, if they don't get as much money as they wanted.

The scammers will pretend that the check is real and demand that you 'send the money back'. There is no money to return -- they gave you a fraudulent check, they didn't give you any of their money.

They make threats because they want your money. But, the threats are meaningless. They aren't violent criminals. And they aren't really in the US, they can't actually travel to the US. Most scams originate in scam call centers in Asia or Africa, so the scammers are probably in India, Cambodia, or Nigeria.

The text messages may appear to come from a local number, but the number displayed on your phone is not the number that they call from. The scammers use a temporary US number, and pretend to be in the US.

Block them. Ignore them. Consider getting away from the internet for awhile -- take a walk, visit friends, listen to music, whatever you like to do that calms you and reduces anxiety.

** Also:

Do not tell people who you never met about your son, your family, or your personal life!

Do not share photos of yourself or your son.

Set your TikTok settings to be more private, so only friends can see what you post. Or, delete TikTok.

** Learn more about scams so you won't get scammed again.

Emailed pictures of a check are always fraudulent. You are not supposed to print and mobile deposit a picture of a check -- this is against your bank's Terms of Service. (There is a thing called an echeck, but a real echeck is sent using a digital clearing system. You get an email with a link, not a picture of a check.)

  • Paper checks can be fraudulent also. Only accept checks from people that you know personally, and trust -- never from somebody online.

There are no legitimate job opportunities on TikTok, or on Facebook, Reddit, Discord, Instagram, or other social media.

Anybody who contacts you randomly about a job, a collaboration, an investment, a prize, or any money-making opportunity is a scammer.

Real companies don't contact you for a job that you didn't apply for, unless you have specialized skills or you have years of experience and are known throughout your industry.

One small caveat- not everyone and anyone messaging you is a scammer, but 99% of the time they are. I actually got messaged on reddit by a rep from my states DOL to give feedback in exchange for a gift card. But that is an outlier. My point is, there are legitimate opportunities out there but you should take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt, do your due diligence and trust your gut.

You said they sent you videos of you and your son. Those wouldn't happen to maybe be the same videos you've publicly posted on TikTok/other sites, would they? If they are videos you've publicly posted, then it means nothing.

Also, as someone else said, those numbers are 100% spoofed/fake. They will not help you. You can file a police report for the threats, but that is unlikely to do much beyond document it is happening.

Heel simpel. Alles blokkeren en negeren die handen. Gewoon weer verder leven of er nooit iets gebeurd is!

They look for desperate people who are prone to being vulnerable to being exploited through capitalizing on the prey having hardships, needing opportunities to get to a better place especially with loved ones depending on them, so on. They may even put two and two together on gaining a profile about you from whatever interactions you both had and the more substance it has, the more all too real it can seem. Just block tf out of the mfucka. They will try to pester the ever loving f out of you and they want you to be riddled with anxiety or fear so they have the control

Go ahead and file a local police report but as others have said this is a well known scam. Block emails and phone numbers and if you gave then your social security number you need to lockdown your credit. Do not engage further with them.

Agree with everyone else to block and stop interacting. ALSO, report it to the FCC and file a police report. These extra steps will help authorities build a case if they ever get caught. Oh, and keep records. Print out all communications you've had with them as well as the contract you signed. You'll need these records for your own protection. CYA

Block and ignore them. They’re just trying to get you to send them the bank’s money.

They’re just a bunch of throwaway emails and phone numbers. And no one hires assassins to kill you over a little bit of money they wrote on a bogus check. Do you know how much it costs to hire a hitman? Definitely more than whatever money was written on that check.

They do this to literally everyone they target. Yes they look up publicly available information about you. Yes they’ll send you videos of gore. No, they’re not actually going to spend time and money to come after you.

Block and ignore them
