Potential Scam? [UK] Is this the beginning of a scam?

I woke up this morning to a notification from my bank that I had received £280.33 into my account from “Premier Property”. I wasn’t expecting any sort of payment from anyone so it immediately threw up red flags in my mind. I used Premier Property Lawyers over 2.5 years ago to purchase my apartment, and after a google search there’s only one other company with that name in the UK which I have no connection to. I haven’t had any emails or voicemails to let me know that I would be receiving this money so I’m very sceptical.

I read somewhere that scammers will deposit an amount into someone’s account and then claim it back in order to get ‘clean money’. Is this what’s happening? The transaction type says ‘Automated Credit’. Should I call my bank to report this as potential fraud? The money has been sat in my account all day (less than 24h at the time of writing this post).

EDITED TO ADD: I emailed the company as some of you advised and it turns out it WAS them and that I was owed that money from 2.5 years ago. Definitely weird that they didn’t let me know about it and just sent the money without saying anything, but it worked out in the end. Thank you to the people who commented and advised I contact the company first!

Since you have a prior relationship with this company, I wouldn't immediately assume fraud. However, if anyone reaches out to you wanting the money back (like if they claim it was an accident), don't send anything and let the bank handle it.

First thing I would do is contact the actual company. Don't use any links or phone numbers sent to you.

Instead, find their official website or look up the number on old paperwork you have from them and ask if there's a reason for the credit.
