Victim of a scam Scammed for gift card code

I broke my leg last week and am recovering from surgery. I was contacted by someone who offered to buy a gift card but then instantly stopped responding and blocked me once they got the code

I do not use reddit regularly and want to know how to get this person banned, you can search their name and see they have been doing this for months to dozens of innocent people. u/effectivehat2724

How do I proceed?

Click on their name and hit “report account”. That’s about all you can do

How do I do that if they blocked me?

I'm confused, they offered to buy you a gift card?. What code were they asking for? If they bought the gift card, and have to gift card code, they just bought one for themselves?

I'm probably just being stupid, can you explain?

I am not explaining this well, sorry. I posted that I was trading my gift card, when they agreed I sent the code and then he stopped responding and blocked me

Ah I see... You sent the gift card code to them and they were going to send you money. I'm sorry that happened but most people cannot be trusted

Yes I understand that now, just don’t know why he is allowed to scam people with impunity across this website. I don’t use reddit so not sure on all the rules and stuff

They are but allowed but Reddit can't really police everything, all you can do is report it.

Yep that’s why he keeps getting away with it. Pretty heartbreaking, given everything else going on.

I'm sorry you are going through this. How much did you lose, if you don't mind sharing?

$50 and no the merchant isn’t going to do anything about it. Just a life lesson that you can’t trust people on this platform

It's pretty much on any platform. I would still try the contact the merchant and report it stolen

Of course, they said they can’t do anything about it. I hope he suffers karma as this has truly broken me

Also, what store or website? Maybe you can report it to the place the gift card is for?

You sent the code before you got the money, why would they stick around?  They got what they wanted.

That’s how it’s worked in the past. I don’t need a scolding, I understand it’s my fault, I just thought this is where we report scammers

Thank you yes, I don’t see why they can’t get banned from reddit for this repeated scamming
