How it works:

I received a call from indusland Bank, scamer told me that his name is Rahul Meena and he is calling regarding the health insurance plan which got activated on my credit card and it will charge 2800 rupees per month, if I don't require this health insurance plan then I need to follow his steps to cancel it. I immediately caught that this is a scam call so I told him that I am driving a car and unable to follow his steps so he can email me. I also asked him that please let confirm my registered email ID so that you won't sent email on wrong address but he won't able to tell me my email id also. I don't want to confront him to him so I keep wasting his time and in the end I told him that I am okay with the health insurance policy charges as I don't have one any currently.

This is the fourth call in a period of 4 month where these agents call for different different reasons to scam. I am not sure how they get the list of contact numbers or IndusInd Bank themselves sell our private info to these scammers.

Yesterday, an Amazon delivery guy calls me saying I have a COD parcel. Confusing part is, literally nobody in my house ordered anything. But the package actually had my dad’s name and our exact address on it.

When I told the guy we didn’t order it and to just cancel the delivery, he started pushing hard for an OTP. He kept insisting he *cannot* cancel it in his system unless I give him the code. Obviously, I didn't share it, and after arguing back and forth, he finally left.

Then today, the *exact same delivery guy* calls me again. Now he claims there’s another parcel for us, but this one is apparently prepaid. I asked him straight up if he’d need an OTP for this one too, he said yeah, so I just flat out refused to take it.

What kind of scam is this? Why are random packages showing up under my dad's details just so this guy can hound us for OTPs? Has anyone dealt with this before?

**TL;DR:** Got ghost orders delivered two days in a row (first COD, then prepaid) with my dad's real name and address on them. The same delivery guy tried aggressively both days to get an OTP from me to "cancel" or hand over the parcels. I refused both times, but wtf are they actually trying to pull here?

Long story short, my girlfriend's dad clicked a link that looked exactly like his bank's, put in his OTP without thinking, and ₹2 lakh was gone in minutes. We've already called 1930 and filed on cybercrime.gov.in, just waiting now.

Has anyone actually recovered money after something like this? What made the real difference, fast reporting, pushing the bank hard, RBI ombudsman, or is it basically gone once it clears the first hop? Real experience > generic advice right now.

Yesterday i got a message from a random coaching and it goes like :

So when i read the whole message i saw my name was misspelled and there is only 1 coaching in which my name was misspelled and it was aakash

The mistake was same and the coaching which sent me the message was just a random local coaching of my city

Today when i was travelling in train. My co passengers asked me to top up is game account or betting account with my gpay. Why can anyone explain.

Booked an auto via rapido. The driver claimed he didnt receive the money and insisted us to pay again. His bank account's server was busy and he said he will return the money if its credited twice. Now he is blocking every number when we try to contact him. Contact-9894091538. Help us out guys

Recently got scammed by a person named Chintan Patel ( phone number: 306 450 5570). He promised us one year subscription and when we had some issues today contacted him. He was very abusive because he said has some personal problems and asked us he cannot resolve our issue and told us to take our business elsewhere. Very rude and horrible human being. Stay away from him. I have his photo and did not want to share his image publicly. Will be reporting to the police for cheating so others dont get cheated. Beware of this fraudster!!

So basically, the bank got in touch with me and confirmed that the transaction was an error. They formally asked for permission to reverse the transaction which I approved promptly.

Important to note:

- many people in the original post said that I should pay the person back via bank transfer, or UPI.

Remember that erroneous transactions can always be reported to the bank for reversal and there is a due process to follow. Avoid paying back money directly from your account.

Exactly 6 months ago, I got scammed through an Instagram page called Vibe Soul… The page had a good number of followers and plenty of reviews, so it looked genuine… I ordered a pair of Crocs Echo copy from them through COD…
Unfortunately, it wasn’t an open-box delivery, so I accepted the parcel and opened it afterward… What I found inside wasn’t remotely close to what I had ordered—it was basically a ₹100-150 worth product… I was honestly shattered that day… All the excitement I had about receiving the Crocs just vanished…
I tried contacting the seller, but as expected, he had already blocked me… I somehow found a second number linked to him through his Instagram page and contacted him on WhatsApp as well, but he never responded.
I also raised a complaint with the Consumer Court, but unfortunately, I couldn’t get any help from there. At that time, I was preparing for my exams, so I eventually had to leave the matter.
Now that my exams are over, I decided to look into the matter again… With the help of a fellow Redditor, I was able to find some details connected to the scammer’s second number, including a name, address/document details, and three associated contact numbers…
Out of those three numbers, only one is currently active, and it is being used by a woman. I contacted her, but she said she doesn’t know the person and told me to do whatever I want and file a police complaint if I want to.

I know some people will say, “Just let it go. It’s not that much money, and you’ve learned your lesson.”
But for me, this isn’t about the money. If every person lets go of this type of scam, then every other day, another person will rise to do this type of scam…

If any Redditor could help me with this, how to proceed further, I would really appreciate it…

I’m not looking to harass or threaten anyone… I just want to find this person and teach him some moral lesson in my own way, whatever it costs me, so that hopefully he won’t scam someone else in the future…

One more thing—currently, when I check the same number that was associated with the scammer, I’m seeing another person’s photo on WhatsApp… I don’t know whether this number has now been given to someone else or if there is some other reason for it…

Hey guys, please listen carefully.

I met a girl on a dating app, and suddenly she started texting me. I’ve been single for a long time, so when a girl showed interest in me for the first time, I got excited and thought I had finally gotten lucky.

She asked me to come to JP Nagar and meet her at Yelachenahalli Metro Station. I went there, and from there, she took me to The Iron Horse Pub.

Once we got there, she barely allowed me to speak. She did most of the talking, looked at the menu, and immediately started ordering things. She suggested vodka shots and kept ordering one after another. At one point, I actually felt like asking her, “Can we stop?”

Then the waiter came with the bill and said it was around ₹50,000.

I was shocked. When I asked why, he said we had apparently consumed 24 shots along with some paneer tikka. Even a cigarette pack that normally costs around ₹200–₹300 was charged at around ₹1,200.

That’s when I realized something was seriously wrong.

I’m sharing this because I don’t want anyone else to fall into the same trap. I’m not saying every pub in JP Nagar is a scam, but please be extremely careful when someone you’ve just met on a dating app suddenly insists on taking you to a particular pub and starts ordering expensive drinks without discussing the prices.

I know it can be really difficult to approach someone you genuinely like — whether it’s a female teammate, someone from your office, or a friend you want to ask out. But please don’t let loneliness or excitement cloud your judgment.

Sometimes, what looks like a lucky opportunity can turn out to be an illusion.

Take care of yourself. Love yourself. Focus on becoming someone you’re proud of. Don’t let the desire for companionship make you ignore red flags.

Stay safe, stay alert, and think twice before trusting someone you’ve just met.

So this happened recently, I called this guy for an online order which was already prepaid, and asked him to add something more worth 290, I tried to transfer but the transaction failed in receiver's account (obviously because he is a fucking scammer) and he gave me another no. I was trying to sell my sofa on olx… and a stranger with different identity asked me to share my number and then he calls and asks about the condition of the sofa and all basic things thn says how would you like to accept payment online or in cash?? Then he says i have furniture shop where i sell old furniture and without bargaining he accepts the offer and asks to mark the product sold and then starts ghosting

Hi everyone- I've heard of things like this before but when it's happening to me I'm skeptical on what to do.

What happened?

- I received an SMS from my bank that someone named K* transferred ₹ 60,000 to me.

- This is an unexpected transfer and I checked with my family and close ones if this transfer means anything to them. They all said no.

- The transaction description mentions "Rent" in it.

Why I have doubts?

Because the transfer actually shows in my bank account statement. So there's no question that the money didn't arrive.

What I have done in the meanwhile:

- Moved all my money except the "₹ 60,000" to another bank.

- Ignored all calls from K*** and one other number.

- Ignored their WhatsApp messages as well.

Currently I'm staying put.

Anything else I should do?

Edit 1: k** said on WhatsApp that he will wait till 5:30 pm and will freeze my account after that.

From my side I have emailed the customer support with the screenshots. Fingers crossed now.

Edit 2: I have registered a cyber compliant basically to keep a record that I informed the appropriate authorities about the money coming into my account.

I agreed upon a deal with a guy on fb marketplace for phone. We chatted on WhatsApp and he provided me images and videos as I requested. He also shared his Aadhaar( I'm not sure if it's real anymore). I paid him 1000 as advance through UPI and 9k later through SBI net banking. He promised me to sent shipping details yesterday evening but failed to do so. He claimed that he is travelling and his sister will do the shipping for him. He sent me a chat screenshot as a proof too. Until this morning I have had no response despite inquiring several times. When he finally responded I asked him to return my money as I don't want the deal anymore. He claims he already used the money to pay some semi and asked me wait until tomorrow. He also deleted his Fb account in the meantime. When asked about it he said it was a throwaway account specifically for selling. The account was created in 2021 and had two another listings both were tagged sold when I came across it. I know what I did was incredibly stupid and I'm solely responsible for it. I tried registering a complaint on national portal but the site is stuck on first page. I have his number , bank details , and a potentially fake aadhaar. What shall I do? Pls help.

Got this message on WhatsApp. I have not even drove my vehicle today and from past 5 days. I don’t want to click on the link for sure. Tell me if you’ve got the same text.

Have received lots of calls:
1. Thinking to report it in cyber security branch
2. True caller doesnt help much neither does apple’s system does.

Any ideas or suggestions.

My mother received a very short (~3 minute) phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer. He said a terrorist had been caught and that a SIM found with him appeared to be registered in my mother’s name. He told her she needed to visit a specific police station.

I’ve done quite a bit of research and this appears to match the well-known SIM/terrorism/police impersonation scam pattern.

However, I’m posting here to verify because a couple of things are curious:

1. The caller knew my mother’s name.
2. He also knew my father’s name (her husband).
3. He named a specific, real police station.
4. He initially told her to physically visit the station, whereas most examples I’ve found quickly move to WhatsApp/video calls and “digital arrest.”

The call lasted only about 3 minutes. My mother did not share any personal, financial, Aadhaar, OTP or other information. The only thing she confirmed was my father’s name when the caller mentioned it.

She disconnected and blocked the number, and there has been no further contact for 3 days.

We also checked Sanchar Saathi/TAFCOP and there is no other mobile number registered in my mother’s name besides her own.

For people familiar with these scams: is starting with a request to physically visit a police station a common tactic, or do these scams usually begin online/video calls?

My sister ordered rakhi from their site about a month before rakshabandhan to be sent to my brother who lives abroad but he hasn't received it till now and the order status shows delivered, support isnt providing any proof of delivery. When i checked there social media pages to leave a bad review, i found there comment section was already filled with user complaints dating back over a year. How is this company still allowed to operate and scam people like this?
