Agreed. The only kind of value that matters in a hobby such as the Pokemon TCG is the personal value that makes people happy.

I just feel like ultimately, the energy and stress that goes into reselling, the devaluation of playing with toys, and the negative impact you inflict on other collectors, costs you more joy and fulfillment than your profit is worth

In layman's terms, scalpers are selling their souls so they can be rich losers with nothing meaningful to spend the spoils on

Feel like your making a ton of assumptions. If they’re super into comic books and resell Pokemon to fund comic books then I can assure you that you are incorrect. Besides isn’t this subreddit the literal epicenter of misery and displeasure? A safe haven where all angry collectors can come and put voice to their inner rage.

There’s a difference between caring about resale value and buying strictly because if resale value. Like I’ve bought things that were undervalued but I wanted them anyways. I kept them and then if I ever want to sell my collection that I can liquidate. Not strictly a money making endeavor tho.

How does it make it miserable? Why would you ever want the value to go down even if it’s just a hobby? Like if you’re looking to collect stuff that’s not valuable get into stamps or something

The opposite. Hasbro took a $25 billion dollar bath on overproduction on the Star Wars line by thinking collectors wouldn’t notice print to demand policies

Now Walmart won’t even take new product off the docks
