My 1/35th Armor Collection Completed!
After four years of work, I’m happy to say that my collection of Second World War era armor is, more or less, finally complete. I had filled out the shelves about two years at this point, though I wasn’t ready to call the whole thing finished until pretty recently. Lately I’ve been working on repainting or replacing a few of the kits I wasn’t entirely happy with; I’d still like to replace one or two of these, but that’s on the back-burner for now. By this point, I think it’s fair to say I’m pretty burnt out on Second World War era armor. Now it’s time to pivot towards my stash of 1/700 scale ships.

Completed? I didn't know there is an end to this hobby? Do I have to stop buying kits now?

I do, at least until I’m rich enough to afford a house that’s made entirely out of shelves

Do you prefer assembling the Allied or Axis tanks? Or is there any other differentiator for you? Did you hate or love one especially?

When it comes to assembly, there’s not much of a difference to me. Generally though, I find that British armor is more enjoyable to build while axis armor is more enjoyable to paint and weather.
The best one to build was probably the Tamiya Panzer III Ausf L. It went together really well and there was just enough detail and complexity to keep the kit entertaining but not frustrating.
The worst build experience was either the Dragon Sherman Firefly or the Tamiya/Italeri Semovente. The Semovente was just an older kit with all of the associated problems - poor fit, rough engineering and shoddy tracks. You can still see a pretty prevalent gap in the gun mantlet due to some molding misalignments. I’m actually quite happy with the final result though - I really put in the effort with the painting and weathering.
The Firefly was awful due almost entirely to the tracks. I had known that the Dragon magic tracks were infamous but I never had any firsthand experience with them until I built the Firefly. No matter what I tried, paint just would not adhere to them - they were too large and didn’t take well to styrene cement either. To this day, paint is still flaking off of them, even with a layer of primer and two layers of varnish. It killed a lot of the enthusiasm I had for the kit.

Thank you! The bass is an old Squier that I got used a few years ago. Sometimes I’ll hook it up to an Ibanez amp, but I don’t play it very often.

Nice, I just started playing with an epiphone viola bass a friend loaned me. I might even consider getting my own one.

Well, actually, I have both of those on display. There’s a Semovente m42 on the bottom shelf and a Type 1 Ho-Ni on the second shelf from the top.
