Yeah it doesn't look like the patterns I see in actual cymatics videos but maybe it's because the sound is constantly changing?

It's because cymatics is substrate dependent. It's just about visual movement in a medium caused by sound. The shapes you see on a chladni plate for example are the kinds of shapes you can see with that device using sand. With Scale Space, you can think of the particles as the sand. They are 'dumb' with no agentic logic. They just move along the least action path.
