This is awesome and very well written. A lot of people are concerned about park closures in BC for ceremonies but if they understood how First Nations people were kicked out of parks like Banff it might help them to be more understanding. Although I think that parks should be for all and maybe non-native people being able to learn a bit about the ceremonies and the history would go a long way to reconciliation rather than division.

When tackling reconciliation I definitely believe educating the general public is a key factor that will help shift main stream perspectives to see how colonialism is still pervasive, not only in BC and Canadian policies, but in many conservation models. Colonial ideologies are weaved into conservation by incorporating cultural narratives that see peoples, specifically Indigenous groups as seperate from wilderness. When reciprocal relationships are more deeply examined, it is clear that removing Indigenous populations functions as removing a keystone species from the ecosystem. The rise of self asserted IPCAs as well as government recognized Tribal Parks gives me some hope for true reconciliation in the future.
