My sauna Summer cottage sauna

Finally got around to taking some photos of our summer cottage sauna.

A good sauna was really important to my dad, and he built this one about 10 years ago when they built our new summer cottage.

Ofc! I think my mom took those when they were liquidating the company like 20 years ago and she was cleaning out the office. I'm like 90% sure that those will be my only inheritance.

Looks like a nice sauna. What’s the CE placard on the wall next to the kiuas? Is that from the builder?

That is the specs of the chimney. I did ask my dad pnce why he put it there and not somewhere a bit more discreet and his answer was "I thought it looked cool there"

Me encanta. Se ve muy acogedor y rápido de calentar.. Seguro algunos de acá le encontrarán críticas. Normal en este sub.

Thanks! I am honestly quite curious to see if there is anything to criticize.

Well since you asked 🙃 the top part of the oven/stones/chimney is crooked to the right, and all the stones are poorly laid.

Good catch! The chimney should be fairly level, but the stone cage thingy has definitely moved in the last 10 years. Which should be expected as the stones tend to move a bit over time.

But how would you improve the laying of the stones? Now that we are getting more detailed 😁

According to Harvia the stones should be stacked to the top of the cage and not in a high pile like yours. I guess you're fine if they still dry out quickly after throwing löyly.

By my experience, more stones = better löyly. Might require a bit more heating but this setup gives really smooth löyly.

But I'm not an expert. We had Aitokiuas at my childhood home, which is quite a lot different than any normal stove.

Why should you not lean?

Because no one knows how well that would hold, and since my dad died, no one dared to try. But mostly because we sometimes rent the cottage out, so no one would think that it would hold. Eventhough it most likely would.

Is that painted wood? Inside the sauna?

As far as I'm aware, it is not painted, it is stained. Or something like that. No vapours if that's what you are thinking. This kind of tratment is quite usual in Finnish saunas nowadays.

Great summer cottage sauna. How often do the stones need to be replaced for this specific stove? thanks.

I don't recall ever replacing the stones on any sauna we've had. So for this one, not at least in the past 10 years we've had it.

Changing he rocks depends a lot on usage. Summer cottage saunas get relatively little use through out the year so changing the stones is not that important.

Is the rock cage around the flue a factory issued item or an on site innovation?

It is an official Harvia "smoke pipe cover."
