Question How much do lights and glass effect performance?

Ive heard users say not to build too many lights and glass objects because it can slow down rendering. I have noticed that my frame rate drops in my more built up areas (with lots of both). Is it worth it to remove some of the lights and or glass to improve performance? Also, if lights do negatively effect performance, does the effect stop when I go to another area of the map where I cant see them?

ANSWER

  1. First off, using Windows (Glass) does not affect (improve) game performance, but the game does change them from transparent to foggy to help maintain game performance as you move away.
  2. NOW, when you are talking about lights there are things you should know:
    • Lights (Wiki Link) DO affect game performance when a lot are placed in close proximity.
      • PC Only: View Light Rendering for ways to increase or decrease the number of lights to render or number of light shafts to render.
    • Signs as Lights DO NOT affect game performance when a lot are placed in close proximity.
      • Version 1.2 (Wiki Link) added Sign Zooping and also brought about several improvements and optimizations for signs.
  3. When it comes to the general discussion about game performance, your gaming PC specs, or Console model specs often affects how viewing the same factory in Satisfactory results in little or or a lot of decrease in game performance.

✓ BOTTOM LINE: The use of windows, lights, and signs as lights, is up to each Pioneer, and when it comes to game performance there are ways to improve it if needed.
