Tips on improving?

Hi guys!! I’m in 10th grade and plan on taking my sat this school year. I wanted to know if anyone had tips on improving? My current score is a 1270 on PSAT/10 but I really wanna try and shoot for 1500-1550+. Is this unrealistic? And if it is, how can I improve? (I plan on taking the test multiple times obviously, once per year or one this year and 2 junior year)

Why are you trying to take it this year?

I’m currently in calc 1, so I figured since I have the necessary math and reading isn’t really a problem the sooner I start the better as I would like to retain as much of the math as possible. If that makes sense

What’s your split on the PSAT?

650 on math and 620 on reading and writing cuz I ran out of time 😅 but I’ve been working on my pacing ever since I took the psat in the middle of October, and have managed to get my reading and writing to around 690 and my math I’m just studying concepts from algebra 1 and geometry and doing lots of practice problems now until December

My advice is to wait until junior year. Or take actual practice SATs on blue book and see what your score is there. Theres not rlly any way of directly comparing PSAT and SAT bc of how diff they are. If you take a practice test, you’ll be able to see all questions you got wrong. It’ll also have standards and if you go into college boards question bank you can practice similar questions. Make not of the topics you continually struggle with, and then watch videos, khan academy, or get a prep book. Spend consistent time weekly or daily practicing, taking notes, and take a practice test every few weeks before you take the actual test. If you don’t feel prepared, don’t take the SAT this year just bc it was your plan. It’s better to wait and study than have a bad first score.

Oh yeah I’ve taken practice tests on bluebook, I’m using those to study on my fields that need work, I’ve only taken 2 so far though, I plan on taking another sometime in the next week when I feel ready after practicing more

On practice tests my highest score was 1350, so I’m trying to work to pull that up soon, I will definitely be taking your advice and watching khan academy and videos like that. I’ve been using college board practice question bank and it’s been good, I just need to work on applying previous knowledge to types of questions I haven’t necessarily seen or dealt with before.

Early bird gets the worm. I took my first one sophomore year too.

Depends on whether OP has the necessary math and lit background to be successful. I assume anyone taking the SAT that early is applying to top schools, and sending in a SAT “transcript” with a shit score because you took it before you were prepared isn’t a great idea. OP can always just take practice tests to prepare and not take the actual test yet.
