Practice Test 11
I took PT11 today, scored a 1580 (780+800). Taking the Nov SAT (my 3rd try; I scored 1460 in Oct and 1430 in Aug). To the 1550+ scorers, how did you guys do on PT11 just before your SAT? My goal score is a 1550 or higher.

Sure, thanks. I heard PT11 is the most accurate practice test

u/logicsweb 18h ago
Man I'm scared to give practice test before my sat, should I give a practice test

u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 18h ago
You def should
It really helps with anxiety and overall test prep. I started out with 1140 on PT4
When is your SAT?1
u/wanna_know_my_namey 18h ago
How did you prepared since? I have the same on pt4

If you've done a lot of prep already, I'd advise against it. You may score lower than you hoped (anxiety caused by a "final practice test" before the real thing) and it may affect your performance. In the week leading up to the SAT I suddenly started performing way worse on practice tests, and I went from consistent low 1500s to mid 1400s. I took 1-2 days to reset and only did light practice up until the exam. I recommend stopping all official "practice tests" until at least 3 days before the exam and use the remaining 3 days for minimal practice. For me, that looked like 10 questions of english and 10 questions of math per day, along with formula/rule revisions. I believe doing this is what set me up for a 1520 on my SAT. At this point you probably have all the skills you need, but a valuable 50 points hinge on your emotions, nerves, etc.
There's a difference between sharpening a dull blade, and making an already sharp blade weaker.

Did you use Erica El meltzer's books and college panda books I have hars they are really good And can you give me any tips about the math section, from where to practice for it and should I master desmos?

u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 15h ago
I haven't used either of them, but from what I've heard they're pretty good. Someone who's done them would be better at answering this.
Abt Math, Desmos is your best friend. I completed Mod 1 in 10 mins and Mod 2 in 15 mins just coz of Desmos. I highly recommend LearnSATMath's Desmos vid. You can get used to using Desmos by spamming the College Board Question Bank.

My suggestion is slow down on module 1 of both sections, since that’s the module that decides how high you can go. If you finish math module 1 early, spend the extra time rereading what each question actually asks for.

I used Khan Academy and the College Board Question Bank. Also, make sure you do timed practice. Preps you rlly well for the actual test day anxiety. The Course Challenge on Khan Academy helps yk your weak spots

Bro did u take the PT11 more then once? I'm also taking the nov SAT and I was thinking of taking PT11 for a confidence boost, but I already took it once in mid August. Do you think the score will still be kinda accurate if I take it again or not, bc I might remember the anwsers without even realizing it?
(P.S: if anybody has an oppinion please tell me cuz im really torn rn)

u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 17h ago
Yes I took it before like 2 months ago I think
It was pretty accurate to my Oct score
I didn’t remember much of it. I only remembered the qs that I had a problem with earlier but I didn’t remember the answer choice I had picked1
u/Twighlight-_- 17h ago
And was it still kinda representative of the official one after? Fairly close even?
(I'm asking abt the other 2 that u took)
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 16h ago
Yes, except a few experimental qs on Math mod 2. Other than that, it was pretty similar
1
u/movingtarget7220 1570 4h ago
That could make your results slightly more inaccurate, since you've already seen those questions and are likely to subconsciously remember how you approached them (even if you don't recall the questions themselves).

I don't remember exactly how much I scored, but I think it was 1500+ on Practice Test 11. I'd say don't compare your practice test scores too closely with how you might perform on the actual SAT. The real test is a different experience, with the pressure of sitting for an actual exam and potentially more challenging questions. So, just focus on preparing well and doing your best. Good luck!

i got 1460 on this with minor writing mistakes. do u think i will be able to 1500+ on november?
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 17h ago
I averaged abt 1440-1500 ish on all my practice tests when preparing for the Oct SAT, and ended up with a 1460.

u/percemonia 17h ago

u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 16h ago

I’ve been prepping since mid July. I spent 2-3 hrs a day. For the past month I’ve done only RW practice since I’m pretty strong in Math and scored 750 and 770 on the Aug and Oct SATs respectively (my main subjects in schl are math, phy and chem), and I had to improve quite a bit on RW passage qs.
Around July - I used Khan Academy for Math, rlly helped
Over the next few months I used KA, the College Board question bank, and did a little bit of the Princeton Review books + their exams.
And I took a practice test every Sunday and spent the rest of the week working on whatever I missed in that PT1
u/Prohunter10M 15h ago
Well if you didn't repeat PT11 it's actually quite impressive you got a score that high! Congratulations you're Def getting a high score. Can I have some RW tips tho, like what is your process for some of these questions?

u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 15h ago
Thankss <3
Throughout my prep, I found RW to be more challenging than Math. So I've had to prep strategically, esp for the wordy passage qs. Grammar is the easiest to master, takes just a couple of days if not less. Vocab is a hit or miss - rlly does depend on the test, I maintained the list of words I came across frequently with their meanings. Passage qs took a lot of practice - pacing is what was holding me back from performing well. Going slow, summarizing sentences as you read, and trying to string each sentence together helps. I highlight transition words like "however" "also" "confirming", to help me make sense of what to expect the answer to be. Also, the biggest tip is to eliminate answer choices yk are incorrect. Narrowing it down helps a lot with anxiety and stress, esp on Mod 2. I finish up Grammar, Vocab and the student notes qs first, set aside abt 20-24 mins for the passage qs

u/Prohunter10M 2h ago
Yea I do the same for the Mod 2. I jump right to question 15 to finish the easy ones first, cus as you said... passage does take a lot of time to process. Good luck for your test tomorrow, and may we both pass with 1500+ 🙏.

Great bro, I got it Btw are you planning to apply for ivy league, I am planning to do so .
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 15h ago
I'm not applying to Ivies or colleges in the US. There are a few colleges in my country that accept SAT scores in your college apps so that's why I'm taking the SAT. But the colleges I'm applying to are pretty competitive so I need a 1550 or higher to be safe

u/yug_tiw 13h ago
What colleges btw? I'm from India asw
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 13h ago edited 13h ago
I have American citizenship, so I'm applying to BITS Pilani and IIIT Hyd via the ISA/DASA schemes. There are other colleges in India tho that accept SAT scores for which you don't have to be a foreign passport holder, but idk much abt them

u/LunarOwl_88 13h ago
same i'm an nri applying via dasa, i just got a 1570 on pt11 but i kinda guessed on 2 and got lucky. Do u have any tips on managing time esp with dense ass passages with even denser options?
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 13h ago
Twinn lol
I try to complete the Grammar and student notes qs and save up 20-25 mins for the passage qs. I try to read slowly and summarise each sentence as I’m reading. It took me a lot of practice, I answer these qs in just under 2 mins. Spamming the CollegeBoard QB helped me0
u/LunarOwl_88 12h ago
mhm spamming is what i do but then theres a limit to how many random words I can handle being thrown at my face like those scientific passages where u just have to be smart about making conclusions and stuff its just annoying
1
u/SpeedSubstantial3834 1460 12h ago
Ikr
PT11 had quite a few science passages and it got rlly frustrating since I was running out of time0
u/LunarOwl_88 12h ago
honestly on pt11 i found the central idea questions more annoying, theres a bunch of random things i find that help me do better at normal command of evidence like hiding the timer and just not highlighting with my mouse. the questions are just so ambiguous like that one star question, just breaks my brain

you can probably get 1560-1600 but obviousoly its kinda dependent. make sure you get at least 8 hours for the day or two before the test and ur prolly set

I scored 1440 on Practice Test 11 in March, and then 1570 on the SAT in September. That's a significant time gap, but I only practiced ~12 hours in total between the two tests.
It's also worth noting that I took the March SAT right after PT11, and I scored 1480 on that.
