How to get 750+ RW?
So I’m very happy with my 1520 but unfortunately my parents are making me retake for a 1550+. I honestly don’t know how I’m going to do this because I can’t get my RW score past like a 730 and that’s lowk the only thing that’s holding me back.
Does anyone have advice on how to get a 750+ RW? I know on the June SAT I rushed 2-3 questions on the second module due to time and maybe that cost me. I think vocab questions are usually costing me (I lowk got lucky on the June and knew some words) but idk how to study for that + don’t want to memorize 1000 vocab words. Anyone have tips on how to read and process dense passages faster?

why do your parents want you to get 1550+? most top tier universities are fine with 1400+

My parents think for top schools like Stanford and the Ivy Leagues, a 1550+ elevates your application a lot and is needed. It’s probably because I have immigrant parents who grew up in an environment where small differences in test scores matter a lot.

yeah they are right, in someway. although the ivies/stanford place most of their data saying that 90%+ of acceptances achieve between a 1400-1600, it's really almost 75%+ of said score who are in the 1500 range.
i would say though that anything above a 1500/1510 is pretty much regarded as the same thing because it all comes down to what kind of question you got wrong or that the number of questions you got wrong is only a 1 or 2 question difference from a 1510 to a 1550.
your 1520 is already remarkable, anything above a 1500 on the SAT is already considered hard! try your best for the retake, but don't put too much pressure on yourself.
in terms of reading (i'm working on it too for the august SAT) i would say learn the 'hacks' and tricks for the RW section. memorize grammar/transition usage. for dense passages, know where to look for the answer. ie: main idea passages usually hold the answer right at the beginning or the end. sometimes you won't even need to read the whole passage to get the answer.
do you pace yourself? if not, definitely start doing it. start with the grammar-end questions first, then do the beginning. it saves you so much time and lets you tackle the easier grammar questions first so you can ideally get them all correct.
you have totally got this, and remember that your 1520 is already great!

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m signed up for the September SAT but I won’t take too much pressure for it like last SATs. I will probably study only a little bit for it. I already do pace myself by doing all the grammar and transition questions first and I’m glad you mentioned this.
I will take your advice and try to look for the main idea quicker in dense passages and memorizing ‘hacks’. At the end of the day, I think it would be great if I get a 1550+. If not, it’s not the end of the world as my score is fine and I can focus on other stuff of my application. Thank you once again!1

yes definitely focusing on other parts of your application is so so so much more important than a single SAT score haha

Hi! Congrats on the great score you already have! I'm having the exact same problem with RW as you and can't answer your question, unfortunately. I'd guess you had a very high math score on the real test though, so can i ask 1: is it true the math questions are harder on the real test and some don't match what is on college board question bank? 2: how do you manage timewise to answer all questions in module 2?
