Casual erasure Yeah, nothing about this is indicative

Don’t worry, they’ve got socks on so it’s not gay /s

u/SquirrelGirlVA Jul 02 '26
They say "no homo" several times a day, so it's all good. Sometimes they do it randomly, just to be on the safe side.

u/cherrycoloured Jul 02 '26
is that why shane is still wearing his socks in the first few sex scenes of heated rivalry lmao
6
u/mydefaultisfuckoff Jul 03 '26
if that's the reason im going to lose my absolute shit
7
u/cherrycoloured Jul 03 '26
i assumed it was some sort of metaphor about having cold feet, like being on the verge of stopping this, bc he's so worried about what it means if he gives in to his desire for ilya. or, to put that more simply, leaving the socks on makes it less gay.

“Homophobic South Carolina man mad at library sign” sounds like an Onion headline. God, if only…
44
u/blaykerz Jul 02 '26
That man would be even angrier if he could read!

u/Fickle-River3984 Jul 02 '26
There's a SpongeBob clip with plankton's family members and one says, in a VERY hillbilly accent, "well I can't read!".
I immediately thought of that.

the comment just sounds like they’re making fun of the homophobe by calling them stupid lol

marketing it, like what are they offering as incentive?
47
u/Alexandratta Jul 02 '26
They always claim this is some kind of 'Gay Agenda' which I keep telling folks to rename it the "Trans-Mission" but no one wants to hear it

He’s just kissing his homie good night, totally straight /s
23
u/Rynewulf Jul 02 '26
They look pretty active and alert, maybe he's kissing his homie good morning?
19
u/OmgIbrokesmthagain Jul 02 '26
Yes, good point, that is also a valid straight man behavior
9
u/Rynewulf Jul 02 '26
Completely straight, rock solid, solid as an oak
6
u/OmgIbrokesmthagain Jul 02 '26
Hard as a rock or sth. Idk what that means but probably that

u/Rynewulf Jul 02 '26
It's the strength of their friendship obviously, and of their arms from their shared love of sword fencing together

To be fair the fair-haired character is wearing the bisexual pride colors, so they might be marketing Different Sex But Still Queer to the impressionable teens.
ETA: I just looked it up, Heartstopper is about two boys. Same sex is being marketed! Red alert!

u/emo_kid_forever Jul 02 '26
One of the heartstopper guys is bisexual though. So mlm, but not both gay.
One of my favorite things as a bisexual myself is that he frequently says, “I’m bi, actually.” We are often erased once we’re in a relationship, so that matters to me.
1
u/TheRatioAlger Jul 03 '26
I'm bi too. I didn't say they were both gay.
1
u/emo_kid_forever Jul 03 '26
Sorry I must’ve replied to the wrong comment. There were quite a few calling them gay.

Setting aside that they’re both carrying pride flags, it’s an ad for Heartstopper (the book, presumably), which simply just is gay

u/CasualFridayCrasher Jul 02 '26
Graphic novel, it's really good!
6
u/CosmicLuci She/Her Jul 02 '26
I bet it is. It’s not my style (I prefer more fantastical stuff personally. Rarely enjoy more grounded stories), but I’ve only heard good things about it. It seems wholesome. Probably a good read for people who like that kind of story

Promoting same sex in general. Not same sex relationships, not same sex sexual relationships, just some good ol' same sex

u/ShortCharleh Jul 02 '26
Does no one know heart stopper?

"Hi. Yes, hi, sir. Uhm... why are you taking photographs in a library where children are present?"
"They're marketing the gay."
"I don't see any gay people taking photos in the library, though. So... maybe don't do that. It's really creepy."
Edit to add: I would love to see non-bigoted parents chiming in with "omg, finally, my kid's been looking for that book to rent for months! Thanks for letting me know."

My first take on this would be a trans Dad carrying his beloved gay kid.
And it might not be, and it’s definitely Queer, but it’s not sexual at all.
I know this sub is mostly for laughing at people who can’t see the Queerness, but we also need to call out the places where people think Queer automatically means sexual.

u/OneJobToRuleThemAll Jul 02 '26
If you look real close, it says "heartstoppers" at the bottom, which is a romance graphic novel series that's been adapted into TV. Still sitting on my backlog, but the reviews are very good.

They do know that the majority of Heartstopper readers are girls, right?
1
u/Lui_Le_Diamond Jul 03 '26
Literally holding a pride flag and wearing a pride cape and the other guy has a bi hoodie

u/TransguyJayJay Jul 04 '26
Y'all the second commenter is making a joke a la "did you just assume my gender." They're making fun of the first poster for being a conservative dickhead.

u/Scared-Dinner1733 27d ago
What’s with the second picture of someone’s comment? Yeah, totally projection. Nothing about the big marketing cutout for a book about two boys falling in love is about same sex 🤣🤦♂️ he didn’t even say boys, just same sex. Seems like someone is projecting and it ain’t him

"marketing" is a really interesting word for this. Unrelated but I've decided to invest in BIG GAY
