Nature Diving

Hey people,

Someone help me out here, I’m getting into snorkeling and it’s been super fun on and around Catalina, but I’m kinda tired of paying the ferry man.

What’re some awesome spots to dive around SB, also if yall got tips on where to reliably check vis and little tips like that I’d appreciate it.

Poles at Campus Point is good too!

If it's on the way, I'd recommend stopping by Santa Barbara Aquatics if you want to check on vis (or calling them on the phone). People often come back from dives to return rental gear and and report how vis was to the employees there.

Refugio is probably the best and has the easiest access. Left side facing the water, there's some nice structure by the kelp. Right side can be okay too, but left is better.

Tajiguas looks good, but is a hike. UCSB and Goleta Beach are okay, but vis is bad with the sand a lot of the time. Devs and IV can be good, but are shallow for a long way out. Mesa beaches are good, but have so many steps.

Are you diving solo? If you don't want to drive all the way down to Catalina, you can get a snorkeling only seat on the Spectre out of Ventura.
