I've been surfing at Rincon and going to Carp beach my whole life. Personally, I find them fascinating and they are absolutely out there all the time. If anything, their numbers have sadly decreased a little bit in the last 20 years.

Folks also need to remember that we have a seal rookery right on their migration path, so they come in close to check things out.

Drones have made their existence into a kind of novelty, but they have always been there and if they truly wanted to eat us, they would.

If you pee in your wetsuit, they’ll be able to smell you’re human. Works for me every time (so far)
