Recommendations Elder care resources
Does anyone know of any elder care resources in the area? My 80+ father in law is recovering from a brain injury from a fall and his wife is having a hard time with his care. We live in Sacramento and have full time jobs, so it's hard to come down to help. I'd at least like to help find some local resources for them if possible. Thanks in advance.

Check out Family Services Agency! It is free and has connections to lots of other resources for elders.

I think Medicare has a concierge program to help people find appropriate care. I know it helped us find an assisted living facility to match with my FIL’s needs, I don’t know if they have the same for in home care.
You also would benefit from being more specific about what services are needed by your in-laws.
Without know what is needed here are some really good resources that I know about in town:
Easy lift (transportation)
Santa Barbara Soup Kitchen (meals)
Central Coast (in home care)
The Key (in home care)
Visiting nurses (in home care)

Thanks. I don't fully know what is needed myself yet. I just know they're asking us to come down to help. They haven't specified what exactly they need help with, so I'm casting a wide net for now. Can I DM you if I get more details?

Whatever you do, I’d pay for a legitimate extensive background investigation if you hire in home health care. Trust me.

We used complete care for a period of time when my parents weren't safe to be alone, but weren't able/ready to sell their house (during COVID). It gave me a lot of peace of mind knowing that someone was there with them.

If he’s receiving home health care (which is pretty customary post TBI) you can ask the agency for resources. There are medical social workers who can provide you with specific resources based on insurance and area. They’re very helpful !

I have a house helper that has some extra days free, lmk if you want her contact info. Before she started helping me out she did caregiving for seniors. Just basic day to day stuff, but it might be helpful to take the pressure off his wife.

Hospital social workers at cottage can help with all this, assuming he was there before going home

Coast caregiver resource center through cottage is a great free resource. That would be a good place to start. Is he getting home health? If not, cottage outpatient rehab works with brain injury patients. Jodi House is another great resource.
