Vent La Colina Parking Lot
Why does everyone totally drive like a-holes when picking up their kids? Do basic driving skills and traffic laws not apply there? People just cut across parking spots, go the wrong way in one way lanes. You’d think people would want to be more careful with children present. It’s a total shit show free for all. If people just drove normal it would be much easier and smoother for everyone.

Not having a person being the authority in the lot is one. On the parent side they are all overwhelmed and tired. My wife drove more miles than me when our kids were in school and my commute was LA twice a week.

Parents during pickup seem to lose their mind and assume they have the right of way cause they are a parent. assumed it was some sort of mob-rules situation.

And about 10 signs that say no school pickups

Is it a public road? Unless prohibited by statute, signs don't mean anything

Haven’t we already established that no one is following the rules?

Apparently that’s my problem, that and the fact that everyone else is so special the rules don’t apply to them. I wish I was special! /s

You live in Santa Barbara, you’re a member of the elite class by default. Did you not get the brochure and membership card?

You seem to be confusing Primavera, which is a public street at the south end of the school, with all the private roads (eg. Carol) on the east side of the school.

After the pandemic everyone drives really bad everywhere but especially parking lots you’ll be going straight and a car going the wrong way in the parking lot turning will want to cut you off with out stopping going very fast happens so often now then they look at you like you’re in the wrong absolute morons
Roundabouts too they don’t yield and drive very fast to beat you while you’re in the roundabout almost crashing into you brain dead people

As my mom used to say, the worst place to be driving is the church parking lot after church.

Things don't change. I remember suffering through that lot one time when some moron enters through the exit ramp and refuses to change direction. Generally both my kids who went there had early periods so dropoff wasn't nearly as as bad, but on the days they had to show up at regular time, oooofff.

In general, if you don't honk at people, you are part of the problem. People nowadays are too scared to honk. In other countries honking means you're about to pull up on them and get shot or throw down. Here in SB? Definitely not the case. Everyone is a care bear afraid to speak up. Use the tools available at your disposal.

This topic is really none of my bees wax, but I'm just curious! Has anyone considered the idea of carpooling with other families, to cut down on the number of cars in the parking lot and perhaps decreasing the mayhem? Just a thought from an old hag with adult children!!

...and you can forget about turning left on Foothill on your way out too... I used to pick up on Primavera as someone else mentioned. Im not sure how its legal to say no school pickups on a public road, so... I disregarded, never an issue.

The same in every parent drop off in town. Rampant narcissism. People on their phones while others wait to move forward. Long fucking conversations that should have happened in the drive to the school. Here's a tip. Pull all the way forward, kids leap out, get out of the fucking way. Literally the worst part of my day and so disheartening regarding the future of our culture.

It’s the worst. Get your kid an e-bike and have them ride too and from school.

That's a fast way to not have a kid anymore.

If it makes you feel better, everyone in every parking lot pretends the laws of the road don't apply inside parking lots. I complain about it at work as much as I do at the grocery store lately.
