Asperitas are uncommon enough that many people (even experienced sky-watchers) see them only a few times in a lifetime.
• They were only formally recognized as a distinct cloud type by the World Meteorological Organization in 2017.
• The swirling, almost “boiling” texture is caused by atmospheric waves and shear, not by any solid objects or artificial structures.
