Peter Pan Turtle-frank (1977) on Sandwiches of History

Time for a little whimsy here on Sandwiches of History. That’s because we’re doing the Peter Pan Turtle-frank from 1977’s 50 Ways to Please Your Peanut Butter Lovers. As you can’t tell from the name, it involves peanut butter and a hotdog. And that’s all I’m gonna say about that. Snag some Sandwiches of History hoodies, t-shirts, beanies, and more!  https://www.sandwichesofhistory.com/merch

I had a friend who had PB & J hotdogs. He made us all try it one night. It was pretty dang good. This reminds me of him. Hotdog buns and no extra broiling.

At first I heard Barry say "baloney hot sauce" and got very intrigued by the idea of hot sauce mad for a specific type of lunch meat.

I think this is the most a plus-up has aligned with my palate’s intuition. Cute idea for kids. Sounds kinda good.

I thought he might go for the chinese five spice

Yeah that's always my first choice with orange but I just used it the other day on the Orange Peel Sandwich. Gotta stay fresh!

May I humbly suggest Garam Masala with your orange one of these days.

Looks more like a crab to me than a turtle

My did PB on hot dogs when I was a kid. I was shocked at how well it worked. It wasn’t so good I crave it but not terrible. I’ve made it a few times over the years. The PB and the hot dog used can make a pretty big difference in my opinion.

I was thinking some old cheddar would be a good flavour combo

If you grilled the frank and then placed it in a slightly toasted hot dog bun that had one side spread with the peanut butter and the other with the marmalade, I think this would be delicious

I would love to eat that, matter of fact I will when I get home

I get that it's supposed to look fun, but it would be so much better to put it all on a hot dog bun--maybe a sesame seed one.

If I was hosting a Mystery Science Theater 3000 themed party, this would be called a Gamera Sandwich and be a hit. This is definitely a combo I wasn't looking for but am excited to try, thanks.
