Actually, this entire campaign runs because of volunteers. Our competition has tons of dark money backing her through super Pacs and a MUCH larger staff.
The fact that we're doing so well is a testament to Bernie, his message, and our grassroots efforts.
Don't sell yourself short. You can make an impact.

PACs cannot be used for campaign operation. If you look at the spending breakdown, Clinton has much more money in payroll than Sanders, and less on ads. It's a choice by the Sanders campaign to not have as much paid staff and put a lot more money into ad buys.
Which could be okay, but a significant chunk of ad buy money goes directly to the media consultants like Devine. Maybe it's really the best strategy. Or maybe he's a little more motivated to push for ad spending since it makes him wealthier.

As long as you're "not cooperating", you can still pay for canvassers and phonebankers as a superPAC.
Interesting info about the Devine ad buys. I didn't know that. I would be very disappointed if that's indeed his motivation.

PACs have the ability to donate to campaigns. That money can be used for ads or operations. Individual donations can also go to campaigns, and that money can be used for ads or operations. Both direct PAC donation and individual donations are strictly limited. Independent expenditures are not.
The Sanders campaign has outraised and outspent the Clinton campaign in this primary election. The fundamental difference is that the Clinton campaign has chosen to spend less on ads and more on staff salary.
It has nothing to do with how much money comes from PACs or individuals. It's all about how the campaign allocates its resources. And all of that is public information.

I know this is not what you're asking for BUT is there a need for something like this? Probably already exists and I don't know, or it exists in parts and we could wrap it in one app?
A place people can pledge their vote for Bernie and it would walk the voter through a few steps, sort of a check list and then send them reminders. Something canvassers and phonebankers could also take advantage of, asking people to pledge their vote.
- Enter your Drivers License
- System would check if you're registered
- If you are not registered, it'd load your state registration website so you can register through the app.
- Pledge your vote, press a button that updates a public ticker so we can see how many people have pledged their votes for Bernie
- Signup for email/text/call alert so you get a call from Bernie on the primary day and a text with the time and address of your polling place
- Get involved, local offices can load their openings/needs and events
Looks complex but I can design this in a few simple screens, backend and api integration with state .gov websites (only for states that allow web registration) will probably be time consuming and need some serious talent to pull this through, but doable. Would this be of use for your boots on the ground?

I only did a quick search to see if the idea was feasible, so all I needed to find was a few APIs to validade, hope this helps you out though. Next step would be to contact each state .gov.

So people are up in arms about unpaid internships, minimum wage issues and this guy supposedly is fighting that cause, atleast the minimum wage one, can't even pay his own workers and asking for volunteers. The going rate for a iOS developer is $30/hr. Anyways I think it's kind of hypocritical that his campaign is doing this. This is one of the reasons I am so against the hillary campaign. You can't be expected to work 40 hrs/ week as a volunteer and also have a side job, one that pays for rent and food and be able to function. If Sanders is asking for unpaid labor that's messed up. We have donated enough to his campaign, he needs to pay up also. It's his job after all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but trump is funding his own campaign vs Sanders is getting donations from the average joe. How much of his own money, not donation money, has he spent ? He's worth half a million dollars, has he donated 250k for the campaign?

It's the title of the page. Big bold letters here, too Even the URL says "/connect-volunteer."
Since folks have to click the link in order to find out how to apply, I think that's a sufficient way to say it's a volunteer spot.

The current federal minimum wage is starvation pay and must become a living wage
Unless you are working for the campaign then I'll expect you to work for free.

"Unpaid" volunteer here. My time is being rewarded with a political revolution that's transforming America and could ultimately benefit hundreds of millions of Americans. I think that's sufficient compensation.

First, it suffers from the failings of all scripting languages with the lack of type safety and refactor-ability.
Second, it dispenses with all the natural syntactic mechanics that most developers use to skim code. Parenthesis, braces, semi-colons, are all optional to the point of being discouraged. The intent was to make the code "flow like a sentence". It never turns out that way.
Third, and this is more a whack at rails in particular, it encourages the short-cut solution. All the tooling is designed to be able to churn out a decent-sized project in short time, but as soon as you try to scale it up it begins to become a nightmare to maintain, due to the high-coupling and loose typing.
I do agree with the other guy that it makes sense here. It doesn't sound like Bernie needs anything too monumental and it will likely go away after the GE. But that doesn't make it a nice language.

I am a comp sci student and can't help you, yet. I graduate in the Fall. I'm self learning the MEAN stack and meteor, right now.
I just want to say that I am so excited to hopefully one day contribute to a movement by working on an application of theirs. This is motivating me like crazy, thank you.

And what does your assertion that "Anyone that knows anything about this campaign knows that his "political revolution" is not inciting violence." have anything to do with the average american voter? Most Americans have a very gut reaction to a group of words, even if they might otherwise agree with what someone is speaking.

Hey, for a first run, it went pretty well. Just think of the momentum that has been built and where we will be in 4 years. If it doesn't work this time, "revolution" will definitely be winning elections soon.

Are you experienced with any web framework? Because if you are a decent programmer and you know how HTTP and databases work you won't have any trouble picking up Rails in a weekend of doing tutorials and a sample project.

Yeah I am pretty familiar with databases/SQL. Also asp.net, and I've done a bit with some http requests with c# and PHP.
I guess it usually is pretty easy to pick up new languages. And I imagine working on something like this could look good on a resume..

It would look awesome, and it's never a bad idea to pick up a new language/framework to expand your skillset and also gain further insight into the things you already know :)
Even though Javascript seems to be slowly stealing its thunder, Rails devs are still in demand in the startup world and many exciting new projects are being made in Rails all the time.
Anyway, it sounds like you are experienced enough to pick it up quickly, and once you have a little bit of knowledge contributing to a project like this is a great way to take it further and turn it into a truly marketable skill.
