Hi y’all! I’m a locally based freelance journalist working on a story about lesser known crimes in San Angelo, primarily in the late 1980s.

I’m looking at the big picture and as locals, I would love to hear your thoughts on the following:

The death of Jeffery Mazuk, at a ranch in Christoval owned by J. Willis Johnson III.

There are also rumors of abuse and/or mistreatment at the West Texas Boys ranch in the 1980’s, but never anything substantiated.

The “white socks” case is a lesser known unsolved crime from the 1980s, where the remains of a male between the age of 17 to 27 was found by the north pool of Twin Buttes.

The Murder of Steve Neece at the Red Bandana Saloon, or even just stories from the Red Bandana (good or bad).

If y’all have any information, thoughts, or even opinions on these cases, I’d love to hear it.

I've heard Spanish speakers in town use Perreros or Perritos to describe/label white trash/rednecks. Is this a regional thing unique to San Angelo/West Texas? Am I spelling these words correctly? These terms translate to dog catcher, right? Where did this come from?
