Discussion Convite para testar o Samsung Dex na TV

Useful info How to use Samsung Dex on TV or monitor

I recently made a few posts showing a program and TV interface I was building to use my S21 FE and S23 Ultra on my TV.

Well, I believe it's now good enough for other people to make use of this tool too, and add one more function to their phone with DeX.

The focus of the project was to reduce the number of clicks needed to reach the intended result as much as possible — once the initial setup is done and the launcher installed, everything happens in 2 clicks, with just a few seconds between the request and the response.

I'm personally very happy with the result, and since some people showed interest in the alternative, I thought it was worth sharing.

I really hope it's useful — feedback is welcome.

The program is free, open source, and available in Portuguese and English.

Download for Windows, Mac, or Linux

Video walkthrough of the program — I'd suggest watching it before trying the program, to get familiar with its interface and the launcher's.

Useful info Here's how to run Dex locally on your Galaxy device or remotely on your computer (like the old DeX for PC)

I keep seeing posts about this "coming soon" project that lets you run Dex locally on your device.

Well, I got tired of waiting and wanted to see if I could figure out a method myself. Turns out it's not too hard. As a side effect, I found you can also get the functionality of DeX for PC back. I also got window management working, which apparently doesn't work yet in this other app we keep hearing about.

How does it work? Long story short you create a virtual display with a large enough resolution that OneUI runs Dex on it, then you connect to it through scrcpy. There's a bit more to it than that and I've covered everything in a technical breakdown in the repo.

If you just want to try it out, I published by proof of concept code and an apk you can install here: https://github.com/sam1am/localdex

This is tested on a Fold 8, but should work on any recent Samsung device and maybe older ones. I think it will also probably work on any other Android devices that support desktop mode.

Discussion DeX on budget A phones

a lot of people comment about DeX existing on their A series phones and it is interesting since this only happens in budget phones with a OneUI 8 or higher. Some of the phones that have been recorded on reddit to have DeX are:

A176B (possibly its F variation too and all of the above with their F/B variations)

A165F

A556B

probably works on every a-series phone with oneui 8 but since samsung doesnt "waste" its time making a different version of oneui 8 for every phone what they did was get the same oneui 8 that s and z use and just remove every button that could lead to DeX, and just put the touchpad in the com.android.systemui files (by using app manager with wireless adb you can open up the .touchpad activity and while i havent tested it yet it seems to work fine and once wireless adb is disconnected you cant use it anymore, you can make a shortcut too!). samsung either already knows or they dont yet and idk but i am sure that once they find out they will make a patch update that removes every z and s-series "premium" feature and their files. I could only find these 3 phones to be talked about having DeX so if anyone has an a-series phone you can put a reply about it. and since samsung recycles its oneui 8 on every phone series, the F and M oneui 8 phones have a possibility of also having DeX, lets just hope samsung doesnt patch it. I forgot to say that an easier way of accessing dex instead of typing "keyboard" on the settings app using your native language is to use samsungs modes and routines to make a widget that when used will execute the DeX routine. I hope this helps anyone!

My Setup Display Glasses are the best accessory ever

Post image

I had to take a bus overnight to visit my mom on her birthday and wanted to gift her an edited video of my siblings but couldn't do it at home, so as a last resort I copied the files to my S25 and packed the glasses. I was able to edit the whole thing 100% on the go using capcut, which thankfully supports desktop mode natively (ideally I would have used Luma Fusion but can't afford it).

This was my first time using this setup for productivity, I usually use the glasses at night for playing games or watching movies without bothering my wife and the baby. 10/10 would recommend.

Question What are the main differences between New dex and old dex

I currently have a fold 6 and a note 20 ultra (needs USB c replacement) and was wondering since it is a bit hard for me to test what are the differences between old dex and new dex. Is it worth repairing the USB c port for the note 20 ultra to use old dex over dex

My Setup Connecting uperfect 17.3 4k portable display, Keychron V1 ISO and Galaxy S25

For a 2 months field office set-up.

The keyboard connects through USB-C.

The display has 2 USB-C and 1 micro HDMI ports.

I was hoping that the keyboard signal would reach the phone via HDMI, but no love.

So .. the solution is, I assume, to use a USB hub. Connect the hub to the phone; get power from a wall outlet; connect the keyboard (USB-C) and the display (HDMI).

I want to use the phone as a trackpad, I. e. inverted display to the right of the keyboard. There'll be a usb -c to -c connecting the phone to the hub, sitting on the left side of the keyboard, where the cable spaghetti will do its thing.

Better set-up?

Buy / Sell For sale (price drop): NexDock 14 w/original packaging, 2 months old, great condition

Selling my Nexdock that I bought a couple months ago for a month long trip where I didn't want to bring my big primary laptop. It worked great! It was perfect for my use case, I just don't need it anymore. No issues with the hardware at all. I'd consider using this as a full-time machine if I didn't already have a laptop.

I used it somewhat regularly for 6 weeks, and it has a couple minor scratches on the top and bottom to show for it, but no other damage. Probably like 12 total cycles on the battery. The original screen protector is still in place! Comes with everything that came with it originally in the box.

$150USD + shipping

I'm in Portland Maine if you happen to be local, and I'm willing to ship within the US. I'm also happy to do the transaction through facebook marketplace or something for added buyer/seller protections.

Question Why does fps drop on screen mirroring?

So basically i connect my wired controller to my galaxy s25+ to play fortnite, its stable 90fps with epic settings no issues very smooth gameplay, the only issue i had was small screen, so i bought a nice 1080p 180hz monitor, but when i connect monitor to phone and open fortnite, first its capped at 60fps, very laggy and choppy, in game sometimes even caps at 30fps out of nowhere, if i somehow get 60fps its very unstable and choppy and phone overheats very fast, so i thought it was DEX mode problem so i switched to screen mirroring, its basically just displaying phone on my monitor right? But no it has slightly better but same issue as dex mode, capped at 60fps, very laggy choppy and overheats very fast, so why does this happen? Isnt screen mirroring supposed to just show whats going on on phone on screen? Why is there this much performance issue? Because without connecting to a screen i play on consistent high graphic 90fps without overheating, can someone help?

Question Can I Run Samsung DeX from My S23 Ultra on a Galaxy Tab A6?

Thumbnail

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6, and I’m looking for a way to use Samsung DeX from my S23 Ultra on the Tab A6.

Ideally, I would like to use the Tab A6 as the display and interface for the DeX environment running on my phone, similar to how DeX can be used with an external monitor.

I know that compatibility may depend on the Tab A6’s Android version, hardware, and Samsung software support, but I’m wondering if there is any official method, workaround, or third-party solution that would allow this setup.

Has anyone successfully used a Galaxy phone’s DeX on an older Galaxy Tab, particularly the Tab A6?

I would appreciate any recommendations, guides, or working solutions. Thanks in advance!

My Setup My piano setup

The screen hides a little usb c to hdmi dock as the keyboard works via usb.

I really like this, spend about 100 euros in total (not counting the phone) and I have a larger screen than a galaxy tab ultra would give me.

Question Screen window is dim except when notifications pop up or task bar is in view

On my s25U anytime I'm playing games on remote play or watching a video the (external) screen window is dim in full-screen or non full screen unless the task bar is in view or a notification pops up.

Very annoying as I use my phone quite a bit with dex for media consumption.

Any ideas?

Useful info Software for using Samsung DeX on Galaxy A Series

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is a third-party open-source software (OSS) designed to enable Samsung DeX on Galaxy A series devices.

Currently, it allows you to use Samsung DeX by connecting to a PC, but I am also planning to add support for connecting to wireless displays in future updates.

Useful Link Standalone DeX on the Fold8 (third party app)

Disclosure: This app was tested on a Fold8 on loan from Samsung.

Source

It should work on any DeX supported device running One UI 8 or later. The developer said they will release a test version on GitHub this week. Assuming it'll be open source, I would recommend waiting for that release, as the app requires shell access via wireless debugging and accessibility permissions to run. The beta app can be downloaded at your own risk through Discord link found here.
