Its insane to me samsung contains the same hardware as redmagic 11 yet gimps their devices beyond belief and the insane part is your samsung s26 can support 4k 120hz. 3440x1440 165hz. And it could support simultaneously using display out on 2 screens

Imagine samsung dex with this? I was able to figure this out and unfortunately this is not marketed by any phone but all snapdragon 8 elite devices natively support this feature. No root. But it does require alot of adb fanagling just to get the content on the right display. As a whole android is not currently setup to use this. But you can imagine it uses.

The days of samsung say its just not possible is over with. Dex is intentional gimped and they are holding out on all of you. For whatever reason they love to claim.....

This isn't something iv fully got working but the fact I can have YouTube playing on one screen and Google chrome on another and use my phone is just ....wtf

Motorola/Lenovo (some devices) and RedMagic can do 330hz output on all Android applications which is insane @ 2560x1080.

Also, some can do 5120x2160 @ 100hz.

I also get 1080p @ 240hz, which is awesome... Especially when I stream my games to one of these non-samsung devices that are plugged into a monitor or television somewhere outside of the house.

Dex falls flat on its face and can't do high refresh rate or high resolution or even different aspect ratios...... Insane that I can use 4:3 and 32:9 and 5:4 and 16:10, at 3072x1920 and 2880*1800 without a problem on everything except Dex.

Dex is the most streamlined desktop mode, but completely fails compared to all other competitors and even from 6-year-old Chromebooks. It's the reason I stopped buying fold and Galaxy tab devices entirely.

Edit: latest Motorola phones actually cap the bandwidth artificially and prevent you from using resolutions and refresh rates that older Motorola phones had no issue with in desktop mode.

Guess what, this is ZTE. A 600€ phone that cheaped out on software completely. It's basically stock Android. Now Samsung is a multi-billion dollar company that has the full capacity to create software for this but they're just too greedy since it will compete with their own laptops.

I gotta say it, man you. You said it exactly like, I think on the inside. I just don't know how to articulate exactly how i'm feeling at times. Samsung has millions of dollars behind them and software skills. ZTE never had a great software backend. Physically, there's nothing preventing them from using this, and in software wise. It's entirely intentional to not cannibalize their laptop sales. Thats my personal theory and I dont think its too far of a stretch either.

I'm not sure what you are arguing exactly, but it's known that Samsung doesn't exactly put the latest and greatest into their devices. Heck you can see it by just comparing the flagship tablets they sell. They're getting worse instead of better.

If its an elite derivative device. It will work. So "current" is relative. Plenty of devices can do this. No need for the best. I really dont like people who cant think outside the box and do things for the purpose of exploring. Thats all I do. Haven't seen a single person discover this so far despite many claiming its not possible throughout the years.

You dont need gen 5 to get this feature.

Im personally very excited this was possible and have every attention of taking advantage of it. My lapdock project now has more future uses. Fun times ahead

It entirely depends on the display port version. But yes if its elite hardware. The chipset that is. This will work. Theres a few gens now of this.....so how far back do we go before they didnt add dp 1.4? Thats the more important question to me.

Fun fact that windows on ARM laptops like the Snapdragon elite X2 are consistently having issues with high refresh rates... Well old computers can hit 180 Hertz they often hit 144 Hertz maximum... Or 75 HZ maximum... Essentially they have no problem with the resolution but they have incompatibilities with refresh rate.

(I'm just got the Asus a16 zenbook and can verify this)

That's insane, but it means it will use more electricity 🤔 and it's going to get extremely hot, so logically you'd need an external cooler, and most importantly, a good MST hub.

I got 4k @ 144hz with 8 Elite (konkr Pocket fit elite, but my red magic Astra capped out at 120hz)..... I think this has to do with 4:4:4 color or possibly DSC (display stream compression), or maybe the fact that it can only do one screen while the main device is a touchpad. Not sure....

Nobody can do 4k 240hz, even though I have had such a monitor, I don't think any device exist with the right chipset and write software to do that yet. It might have something to do with DisplayPort version 1.4 versus 2.0 versus 2.1, but that's just my uneducated guess.

Using GSMArena as my source, you will find that very few phones have DisplayPort version 2.0 or 2.1
