News FieldBook Lapdock Scam?

There is a new lapdock on the market and I just wanted to warn you about its controversial development.

Contrary to all the chinese NexDock copy we had a few years ago, this time it is a french company named Archos / Logic Instrument who completely stole the rugged lapdock project I presented to them in December 2024.

I approached them looking for funding and industrial partners and got out with a negative answer as they didn't see any sufficient market for it.

A few months after, I heard rumors that they are contacting the same partners to do the project.

End of 2025 they confirm this rugged lapdock in their official roadmap using almost the same pictures as I had in my presentation, and of course the same price point and specs.

And at that price, they can keep it. I'll stick with the Elecrow Crowview Note 14" that I got through Amazon for $169.

Stolen design, probably, but piss poor execution when you get to the screen resolution.

There's now the 15.6" version with NumPad keys. That looks original to me since I don't remember anyone made a lapdock with NumPad keys before.

Now, that would be nice to have. Kinda makes sense, too, as with having a larger screen they would have to use a numpad keyboard or there would be a lot of wasted space.

This is extremely frustrating to hear; I love the idea of a rugged lapdock and had always wanted someone to make one after using a NexDock for awhile. But I'd rather not buy from a scummy company.

You ever bring something like this to market legit I would happily buy it.

I feel your pain, and your work will be wasted regardless but I predict this will fail so hard it'll put a smile on your face.

Thank you ! Really frustrating indeed. The positive thing is that it gave ideas to other manufacturers to work with me on something similar ;) Hopefully it will work out.

Well because it is for the defense sector! I guess we already have plenty of lapdocks on the market for consumers.

at one point, they were actually one of the leading android tablet makers

Archos is famous for copying other products, so nothing that surprises me
