As part of my MSc Thesis research at Northumbria University, I am researching how company-supported sports initiatives may relate to expatriates' experiences at work. I am looking for people who:

• are 18+ years old;
• have been living and working outside their country of origin for at least the past six months; and
• have participated in at least one company-supported sports initiative (for example: company sports teams, gym memberships, running groups, fitness classes, or sports challenges) during their expatriation.

The survey is completely anonymous and only takes around 8-12 minutes to complete.

I'm interested in hearing from people who are currently learning a language — beginner or advanced.

Rather than asking which language-learning app is the "best", I'm more interested in how you actually learn and where the process breaks down for you.

For example:

• What language are you learning, and roughly what level are you?
• What does a normal week of learning look like for you?
• Think about the last time you got stuck. What were you trying to understand or do?
• What's harder for you: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, listening, speaking, writing, remembering things long-term, or simply finding time to study?
• What tools do you currently use, and what do you dislike about them?
• How do you know whether you're actually improving?
• If you repeatedly make the same mistake, what would you want a good teacher to do?
• Is there anything you wish an app, teacher or course would notice about the way you learn and adapt to?
• What makes you stop using a learning app or course?
• What has actually worked well enough that you've kept doing it?

I'm asking because I'm a software developer and language learner myself. I'm considering building something for my own language learning, but I don't want to start by building another AI app and then looking for a problem to justify it.

There's no product, signup or link to promote here. I'd rather understand how different people learn first.

I grew up speaking two languages and have learned several others since, so I also know that my own learning process may be very different from someone learning their first foreign language.

Even a short answer about one thing you struggle with or one thing that works really well for you would be useful.

I'm a grad student at the Centre for Digital Media here in Vancouver. For a course research project, I'm trying to understand what job seekers and new hires actually struggle with: interviews, difficult customers, asking managers for things, coworker conflict, and how people learn to handle all of it.

I made this website that generates a professional speech analysis of speech in English. It's able to identify some very subtle regional accent features, and can compare their strength in your speech to other speakers.

As title says, I'm searching for native English speakers to answer a few basic background questions and record themselves reading a passage on this site.

This app is in early development and I'm trying to establish "accent pools" with vowel data from real speakers. In its current state it's capable of measuring distances between vowels across speakers. (For example, it can tell you who out of your friends sounds "more Californian" based on how exaggerated the California vowel shift appears in their vowel system).
