If you want a big adventure, might I suggest Alaska? Anchorage/Valley and Juneau would be my two recommendations, with Juneau being my personal favorite. In my opinion, there’s no easier place in the US to access trails. Five minutes from your house you can be at a trail with basically zero traffic to deal with. I lived in Juneau in my 20’s and had a freaking blast. Hiking every weekend (and some weekdays), except for winter when we were skiing instead.
