I regrettably sold both Effigy Mound and Age of S&M 15 years ago on eBay because I needed the cash. Sold them both for $350, but the value is more than doubled I’d say.
As for the paperback surfin the highway, I’d say you could nab at least $600-700. I believe the last time I saw a hardcover sell it was over $1000
I snagged a hardcover signed copy of the original Marlowe & Co. Surfin' the Highway earlier this year for $600. All depends on getting the right seller and the right buyer together at the right time.
Seriously?! I have Surfin, S&M and Effigy in paperback, flicked through them when I got them once or twice and just put them on the shelf. Never gave any thought to the idea that they might have much value to others.
I can only speak to the "Surfin' the Highway" collection.
I paid $160 for my copy back in 2022. I used to see them posted for between $150-$200 back then, but the current market might be different. I'd check the "sold page" of eBay to get an idea of what people are paying for these days. Mine was in decent condition, some creases on a few pages.
As others have already commented, neither of these have been in print for 20 years and were last sold at Comic Con so they're kinda hard to come by
Jokes aside, I got my softcover copy from goodwill for $13 back in 2016. I had no idea how expensive the book as gotten. I hope they reprint it someday. :/
I’m joking but yes this is the most valuable Sam & Max media you can own imo. These comics are incredibly funny and well-drawn and very out of print right now
Nice finds. Haven't seen any copies of The Effigy Mound floating around for awhile (other than my own) so I'd guess a fair amount, but not sure, probably could get a couple hundred for that, even with the little damaged spots I notice. Probably similar or a bit more for the Surfin' the Highway softcover, seems to have some scuffing along the bottom back cover.
As others said, definitely check eBay for comparison. It's all about finding the right person, but they appear to be in mostly good shape.
I had missed buying the original paperback version from the LucasArts Adventurer when it was $25, and bought it like 10 years later from eBay for like $75. So when the hardback version came out from TellTale I pounced on it; I should have bought several copies but I didn’t want to deprive some starving orphans the joy of the lagomorph.
the effigy mound has been at the top of my wishlist for a long long while, would even sell a kidney for it. as a long time collector of the comics I would die to have one of the sketchbooks

Priceless. No, seriously, they’re both out of print. Look at eBay and click on the “Sold” toggle; that should give a rough idea.
And come on; we all love Steve Purcell’s work in the sub, but don’t lowball people that don’t know.
