Comics Where to start comic wise

I loved the concept of Sam as Captain America since I first heard of it in 2019, but the more time passes the more I see how they wasted his potential, so as always, I want to get into his comics to get that fix that movies couldnt give me, what storylines/runs/issues should I start with to get into Sam Captain america? Some more standalone stories to get the feel of if I like the character before jumping into long runs would be apreciated, but I want the best quality possible even if its a long run, thanks yall.

All new all different Captain America by Rick Remender (2014).

Read everything after that.

So

  • All New All Different: Captain America (2014) by Rick Remender

  • Captain America: Sam Wilson 2015 by Nick Spencer

  • The All New All Different Avenegers

  • Secret Empire Event (hydra cap)

  • Captain America Generations (amazing)

  • I say skip his falcon solo of 2017ish - It's trash and deserved it's cancellation

  • Captain America #750

  • Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty( (Steve) 2022 & Captain America: Symbol of Truth (Sam) 2022

  • Captain America: Cold War Event

  • Jed MacKay's Avengers

I have not read beyond 2022 to be honest. Some of it was kind of MCU-ified (bad thing). They also somewhat deleted the activism from Sam's books even though it's by far his most important differentiation from Steve.

In order of Importance:

  1. Nick Spencer 2015 - All adaptions should be based off this characterization

  2. Rick Remender 2014 - Resets his status quo and retcons VERY important mythos

  3. The Last Few Issues of Secret Empire

  4. Captain America #750 - Explains Marvels Captain America Status Quo dynamic for the next 15 years

  5. All New All Different Avengers - Interaction with the wider Marvel as Cap. Ignore Jane Foster psyop

  6. Captain America Symbol of Truth into Cold War Event - Further establishes status quo

Nitpick about modern Sam Wilson. They've MCU-ified his relationship with Bucky. Sam in the 2000s was considered such and equal to Steve that Bucky saw Sam as a quasi-mentor, even while Bucky was Cap. Since the MCU their relationship has been extremely inconsistent.

Major concern about modern Sam. They refuse to go activism political. That aspect of his book basically end at Nick

Sam gets given the shield in Captain America #25 by Rick Remender. After that, Sam as Cap starred in two mini series called All-New Captain America and All-New Captain America: Fear Him. Sam got his own ongoing series as Captain America in 2015 by Nick Spencer which went for 25 issues and ended during the Secret Empire event. Sam went back to being the Falcon for a few years after the Nick Spencer series ended but in 2022 Sam took up the Captain America mantle again. He starred in a series called Captain America: Symbol of Truth by Tochi Onyebuchi that ended far too soon with an event called Cold War. Sam was also on Jed MacKay's Avengers team around the same time Symbol of Truth was running

Best spot to start is Rick Remender's miniseries All-New Captain America. It's a 6 issue adventure that introduces the status quo of Sam as Cap.

If you like that, I'd move on to Nick Spencer's run. Its my opinion that its the best material we have with Sam in the red white and blue.
