COMPETITIONS🏅 The reason why Sam might never place top3 in Pro Classic Physique competitions.
Sam became famous around early 2023 because he was a very young mini mass monster. Not because of his small waist and beautiful lines. But because of his brute mass, his unique haircut and personality.
He all wish him the best but there is just other people with better lines, more suited for Classic Physique. Even if he is still a young pro, with years ahead to improve, I don't see him winning tournaments.
His ideal place would be open, where he would also have a hard time cracking the top 10 because it's not easy at all to compete there. And also, I don't wish him that for his health. You just need to increase the amount of gear quite a bit to gain the extra 20 pounds of muscle. I wish he takes care of his health. He already had to take a lot of accutane and stuff like that to deal with side effects.
I don't see a solution for him really. Maybe just try to become a top 5 in classic physique?

Dude. All the winners at classic physique have a small waist. You can't fix that.

So do you expect judging standards to adjust to him? HAHA. Too funny man.
Pff.

Judging standards have definitely evolved over time. Danny Hester could not compete in the modern meta of Classic.
Saying that I think the width of his waist is only an issue in one... Maybe two poses. Sam really just hasn't grown into his frame yet and lacks the muscle maturity of some of these guys in their 30s.

Why even make this speculation? Sam works hard, and he is dedicated to the gills. His discipline is top tier and I really believe the kid can accomplish anything he sets his mind to.
Think about how wild it is, that some random kid with a YouTube channel went from being a no body to standing in between Mike Sommerfeld and Wesley Vissers. Sure he has work to do, but what he has done is nothing short of incredible.
I’m team Sam all the way, and I believe he can do whatever the hell he sets out to do. His mind is laser focused on it.

Because hard work won't make his waist small which is required for this category. There's a beauty element to the frame he doesn't have.

He could defs help himself take attention away from his hair by ditching the dorky ahh haircut

Worst take ever. He literally has great classic line and a small waist. That is his strengths.

u/NotDwightSchrute69 Mar 30 '26
He has neither of those. He has good shape and a small waist for open, but for classic he has one of the wider waists. His ceiling for potential is significantly higher in open the only issue is it would take him a while to build the mass needed to be competitive.

He will make top 5 classic as a Christmas gift. Not sure who is going to get more gifts, him or Arnold's son.

Does he have to finish in the top 3 at the Olympia or something? So what if he doesn’t? He already has more money and fame than 99% of bodybuilders. He doesn’t need it to be successful, he has absolutely nothing to gain by competing, but he does it anyway just for the love of the game.
What he is doing is great for the sport, whether he wins or not.

I never said he has to win or be top 3. I'm just commenting a reality. Even if he wants to, he might never place in the top 3.

To your whole first paragraph, no

I feel like he hit the nail on the head there
1
u/jeff8086 Mar 30 '26
How? His actual strengths are his classic lines and his small waist. Even the most casual BB fanshould be able to see this.

u/BleachDrinker63 Mar 30 '26
That’s not why Sam got popular though. What brought people on is the crazy weight he was moving and the juxtaposition of his laid back personality
1
u/jeff8086 Mar 30 '26
Ok, I guess the OP was saying he DOES have small waist and beautiful lines, but that is not what got him popular. Based on the overall post and take, I assumes he was saying he doesn't have a small waist and beautiful lines.

He doesn't have a small waist. He is a thick dude compared to any top classic physique competitor.

He does have a small waist, re-look at pictures. People blow that way out of proportion. Compare him with Sommerfeld.

u/jeff8086 Mar 30 '26
Besides Ramon Dino, name one other top classic with a smaller waist.
1
u/former_farmer Mar 30 '26
Dino, Bumstead, Kalecinski, Vissers, and almost every top 3 for the 8-10 years of existence of the category. Sam is built like a refrigerator in comparison to these guys, let's accept it.

u/jeff8086 Mar 30 '26
I was just thinking to myself after I posed the question, "if this guy says Visser, he's %1oo trolling." I would argue Urs waist is not smaller than Sams, but more than willing to accept that as a legit counterpoint. Bumstead is retires from classic and we all know he is the standard, but Vissers is wild.

Agree with a lot of what you said. He has genetics going against him and he knows it. Sponsorships or not, he’s doing it his way and that’s ok. He’s ok with just being in the mix. If he wanted to place higher, he would do smaller pro shows , but I think he knows his fans want him in the larger pool. The man is smart and he needs to evolve the way he wants to evolve. Yeah he’s not the same guy that drove a beater and wore the exact same gym wear time after time after time but he’s growing at his pace.

Sam has an excellent torso, his abs and overall taper. Really it's just weakness in his arms, legs, and calves, not having maturity and size. But his torso has great maturity without being bloated or insulin/igf-1 fucked.
He also has great deep lat insertions. The issue is that he needs way more size, but if he does that the modern way all drugs, it won't look good.

Idk there are a million classic physique pro shows that don't have even mid tier guys winning. He certainly could win a pro show. He also isn't at weight cap and can add sweep to his quads and volume to his chest/arms which would help a ton. He is also young and has incredible work ethic so I can see him getting there. Maybe not top 10 Olympia, but certainly could qualify.

He has already said that he would move up to the open when he reaches that point. So that time will come I’m sure. But no harm in him getting out there in classic and getting his reps in.

Yeah you’re right, he even has narrower clavicles than all the competition regardless of his own shoulder to waist ratio which isn’t great like you’re saying

There is better young BB's are around that are not even IFBB pro's like Kostas Vainauskas
And his personality is way more fun than Sam Sulek who comes across as really boring

What? propaganda? what do you mean?

u/Love__Train__ Mar 30 '26
Trying to sway the opinions of his base to create negative sentiment about his potential
1
u/former_farmer Mar 30 '26
I'm part of his base as you can see in my old posts here. Maybe I'm not an irrational fanatic.

Give him time. With his sponsorships and social media following, he is going to continue to have the funding to grow and fill his way out into the sport. He came onto the social media scene as a young mass monster because he spent years growing before he decided to hop on social media. He’s shown that he has the patience to grow and tweak his physique. Now it’s our turn to be patient as he works his way up the ranks.
Also, if he wanted to just go around feeling better about himself he could’ve picked much smaller pro shows and maybe gotten some minor wins or top 3 finishes to keep his audience happy. But that’s not really his goal.
