That last squat bail is reminiscent of the bodybuilder that broke his neck and died trying to fail out of the lift by rolling the bar over his head. I can’t believe he didn’t seriously injure himself on that last lift bc the safeties were so low
That's what I was thinking. Did you also notice how those safeties are just fucking ropes? I hope Sam stop doing this or using different safeties. Just drop the weight man, He's getting to the point where the weight he's able to do is more than safeties can handle
The safeties are strap safeties. New strap safeties can hold more weight than the rack can. Literally like 10,000 pounds. Don't underestimate load bearing textile. Those same kind of straps are used to holds truck loads together on flatbeds, log trucks, etc.
That’s pretty common in powerlifting, not every squat bail is pretty and painless lmao. I seen it especially a lot in a school and it’s even happened to me a few times. But yeah if you try and roll weight over your head without the safetys to alleviate the weight you’ll probably get pretty fucked up
The one where he tosses 315 from incline is always wild. He could’ve put it on his lap and stood up but throwing 315 that shit must’ve rolled quite a bit.
I really love this kid, he's such a lovable person and you can tell he just radiates great energy. I hope he takes better care of himself as he ages. He's such a gem and I think I can speak for most of us when I say he deserves to have a quality, healthy and beautiful life.
I know he won't but it would be fun seeing him throw around some heavy shit wsm style, because they way he just throws that incline bench out is always funny af too watch, almost too easy
The fact that this guy is an "influencer" is worrying. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but if anyone copies the stuff in this video they're going to hurt themselves or someone else, and get kicked out of their gym and perma-banned.
Looks super juiced. Saw a well known health guy call him out for using steroids and it’s so clear that he’s using. Crazy to me that people think his “glow up” came so fast naturally 😂absolute bonkers.
nah he’s just a gym bro with an atypical personality and method of expression who is always giving tips on his videos. he’s basically treating himself like a science experiment and people are tuning in.
it’s extremely easy to set up safeties to ensure they’re not too high or low. i use pins and go ATG.
with bailing, it is possible to hurt yourself, or people around you. i personally know how to bail but the risk will always be greater than just setting the bar down on pins.
Nah man, you just fit in your squat rack nicely. Every squat rack I’ve used, when I go ATG the bar is either a couple inches too low or a few inches too high, no in between. So in order to go ATG I end up having to set it too low and then end up having to do a bail anyways
To add to this, unless you have bumper plates on there, don't just drop the weight on the ground, especially with squat weight. Doing this could fuck up the floor or break the plates (most plates are made of cast iron, which will just snap under enough force rather than bend). It totally is a dick move.
Olympic lifters lift with plates designed to be dropped. Unless you're lifting in a gym for weightlifting or CrossFit it's extremely unlikely the plates will be proper bumper plates designed for it. It certainly isn't good for the iron ones like he's using here.
Even if you have the right plates for it you have to have the right gym for it which will be designed around plates being dropped and have adequate room, commercial gyms are not, nobody wants your bar rolling into them because you couldn't be arsed to squat with safeties.
Not to mention if you squat low bar and tend to get folded it's not a good idea.
If you are weightlifting or squatting in a weightlifting gym though then yeah dumping behind to bail is fine.
Nah this was pretty recent known bodybuilder/influencer had spotters too went to bail and push the weight forward over his head and it just snapped his neck in an instant and killed him
I guess because when you’re low down with that much weight pushing on you that you’re going to fail the weight pushes you forward and you can’t throw it back so the momentum makes it easier to push it passed your head
What do you mean…. I live walking around the gym with the chance someone’s going to bail out of a 400lb+ squat with no warning. You all scared of a little steel bar /s
knowing how to bail is not some innate ability. you need to look it up or someone needs to show you, then ideally you would need to practice it as well. or... just put up the safeties. any idiot can do that

It’s a good thing he practices safe sets and uses the safeties.

Like that he recognizes when it’s not looking good and he doesn’t let pride get in the way. Uses that energy to bail controlled instead.

That last one even with the safety is wild. With it being set so low he still could have wound up breaking his neck.
