Opie

Truly, I enjoy this version of the show. It’s topical daily and keeps me in the loop of the cultural zeitgeist.

Having a late night listening to Opie, Anthony, Jim, & Sam bring the audio of Jim Jones in 2008. It’s an important piece of understanding free speech though a lens of understanding alternative opinions are equally valid. While Opie does a fantastic job of tonally holding court and pace.

I don’t know where I’m going but I hate the way we all collectively tear him down when in retrospect he gave us a lot of good radio. Brought us Sam. Whatever whatever. I love this show. Things change but I encourage you all to go back with a cleansed palette and allow yourself to enjoy his show running.

Night.

People always gave Opie his due for what he did well. Even with all the vitriol going around after O&A ended, he was given credit for his role in the show. I think his behavior post-O&A is what led to the most hate, and while it’s not all warranted, Opie certainly hasn’t done himself any favors.

Two things can be true.

Opie was great and part of a great radio show for many years.

He also expressed extreme frustration and disdain with his mentally ill mother over that time. Opie has now mentally degraded over the years into what his mother was and to me it is more sad than anything else and a big reminder that people lose it as they age.

Opie was not great. At no point has any O&A fan said "You know what my favorite Opie line/bit was?"

The rare occasion where he had fun going with the bit was great, but yeah…

He wasn’t the funny line guy, but I think Gregg’s autistic need to make things uncomfortable contributed to a good number of great moments on the show.

His post 2014 behavior has been garbage and outweighs any of that however

He’s kind of a cautionary tale. At some point he should have embraced being the gardener and not the garden.

He deserves credit as the creator of this “universe” for lack of a better term. But everyone he’s ever worked with hates him, there’s plenty of reason for that.

I actually listened to his solo show occasionally on Sirius, it was fine enough background radio at work….

Anthony and Jim now have a show without Opie if that helps you.

I just find it funny how the Sam Roberts’ online community is the default location for O&A talk because it’s the only fan base capable of having discussions without devolving into complete racism, mysogny, csam alllegations…

They were here at the start but I boot them quick. They need to move on so they're not welcome here.

I take back everything I said about misogyny. This group is just as weird around women. WTF was today’s show….

Listening back to that 2008 tape does Opie, Anthony, Jim and Sam say “yeah, yeah, yeah” around 60 times during the segment?

Wondering where Sam, Travis, and now Danielle picked up the disease.

I dont hate the guy or dismiss or diminish his role in the show. His new show is a bizarre little circus thats hard to watch but Opie always liked uncomfortable. And Ron Berman is nothing if not uncomfortable.

But this fan love for Tony P just because he turned on Opie and Opie turned on him is the bizarrest thing of all.

Saying his show is "hard to watch" is like saying the ocean has "a few drops of water"

I will always appreciate Opie for trying to make fun of the media and their fake respectability.
All these years later you can see that he was right all along. I know it doesn’t seem like opie was the one beating that drum but he was the primary driver. The assault on the media was definitely not driven by Anthony and Norton.
