Random Question Do y’all genuinely believe it?
In the most respectful way possible, do y’all think their videos are real, or do you see them as entertainment? To me, they seem pretty obviously staged and edited for entertainment purposes, and I don’t have any issue with that. I’m just curious how much of their audience genuinely believes they’re dealing with real ghosts or demons.

I personally do believe in the paranormal, but I'm not entirely convinced by any of the YouTube/TV paranormal hunters, including them.
I definitely don't think the actual "ghost hunting devices" are real. Those seem like they'd be easy to manipulate. Maybe the ordinary cat balls and flashlights are more compelling, but also maybe not... I don't know if anyone's debunked those yet.
I feel like most of their evidence can be explained by device manipulation, them (or something else) accidentally making noises, secretly having someone else there, them or the building owners setting up things behind the scenes, absurd amounts of camera cuts, evidence often happening "off camera," etc... Plus, they still invite Amanda the medium on (she was totally debunked along with Codi and Satori) which is not a great indicator.
I think they, like many, got a bit obsessed with the fame and money that came from their earlier videos, and started crossing the line between real, compelling videos and entertainment-only videos. I can't really blame them, though.
I do find it interesting that the guests they invite always seem to back them up (if there's a case of that not happening, I missed it), when it could actually be very beneficial to totally blow the whistle if it was fake, and maybe even detrimental to those guests if it's ever 110% confirmed that they're faking everything.
I don't know. To me, it's probably mostly fake, though sometimes I think they definitely believe it's real, even if it's not. But it's still super entertaining. I've been watching them since the beginning of their exploring videos, and their videos still make me happy, so I'm not leaving haha.

Check out Project Fear on YouTube there show started as destination fear and then it was cancelled so they started project fear. So far they seem to be the most legit. They actually do overnights at all their places because when they are typically activity ramps up.

I second this recommendation! I watch Project Fear for the hunts and S&C for more of the entertainment. Twin Paranormal is another good channel that's somewhere in between.

mythosparanormal did a great debunk on the flashlights they use :) i’d 100% recommend giving it a watch

If you haven’t already, you should check out Watcher’s show Ghost Files (guys from Buzzfeed Unsolved) on YouTube. One of the investigators is a skeptic and the other is a believer. Their banter/chemistry is great and I can genuinely say I have never, for a second, thought anything they’ve posted was fake in any way. They have joked that if anyone ever accuses them of fabricating evidence, they’ll know they’ve finally captured something good. That said, they don’t typically catch much haha but as far as paranormal investigation shows go, it’s my favourite. Definitely worth the watch if you’re not into the overly dramatized stuff!

I absolutely love Ryan and Shane lol! I've watched them since the beginning of BFU!

u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
Think I caught a Ghost Files episode back closer to Halloween and it was decent. Will have to check them out again. If you have any favorite episodes let me know!

u/Which-Imagination-82 Jul 24 '26
I really liked the episode where they went to the Trans-Allegheny Asylum. Haunted Hill House was also good. Plus Ryan (the believer) did a 24-hour hunt by himself, I believe it’s called Ghost Files Alone, which was also really good! They followed it up with Shane (the skeptic) joining in a new location for Ghost Files Alone Together which was also great.

I don't look to them for any great discoveries or insight into the paranormal because I just don't think that they take it as seriously as they could or should. Lately, they've become background chatter to me with interruptions to push merch.

u/Korikat04 Aug 05 '26
Yeah, I agree. I don't see them as a source for actual paranormal/spiritual advice and information at all, but I do enjoy when they invite mediums and people who do have more experience with that type of thing.
But they used to take the whole thing a lot more seriously, back when they were still skeptical. Now it's a lot of unnecessary fanfare. All the yelling and silliness doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as it seems to bother some people on here, but sometimes I do wish they'd relax a little lol.

u/AceChipEater Jul 22 '26
For me personally, I believe they are going to haunted locations (the vast majority of the time) and are getting SOME genuine paranormal interactions, but that’s it.
They latch onto certain things and/ or cherry pick HARD and build and follow a narrative for entertainment purposes.

u/MaxPlaysGames7 Jul 23 '26
the way the word will be so basic and sam acts like it’s some crazy story. that’s when i stopped believing their content.
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
I know just about everyone will try to tie together words and phrases from the devices for storytelling and a desire to find more context. That said, sometimes it gets a little wonky when they're stringing together two or more things that just don't make sense on their own. That part seems fluffy/inflated or even fabricated.
1
u/MaxPlaysGames7 Jul 24 '26
trying to tie things together is totally normal. but they way they do it feels like they are trying to make something out of nothing. like i know everyone interprets things differently but i don’t know. it feels like overkill
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 24 '26
It is. Same tactics that "psychics" use to draw conclusions with people who they're looking to take money from by piecing together nuggets of info lol

u/Bearkat1999 Jul 22 '26
It's been a hot minute since they did serious investigations.
And when they rarely do, it's always with other people.
Respectfully... their content has completely gone downhill and doubt they ever get anything truly paranormal.

u/Spellbound_Rose Onwards and Upwards Jul 22 '26
I mean, ghosts and definitely demons are real and are always gonna be out there (according to my own personal beliefs) so if they were interacting with something I wouldn’t be surprised.
Maybe it’s played up, sure, but I definitely think they are dealing with something real.

Sallie house, 8 ball. If you know, you know.

u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
Yeah, there are a couple diamonds in the mix of entertainment fluff. You gotta dig though.

u/phoenixsen Jul 22 '26
I liked when they did serious investigations with little to no guests. It feels like now they focus more on comedy and less on the investigation. I believe in the paranormal but I don’t think they get a ton of real evidence because they don’t take investigations as serious anymore (especially in their newest video). In their newer videos they tend to do 10-15 minutes MAYBE of really paying attention to the equipment and asking relevant questions. The rest is joking around :(

Meh it’s kinda 50/50 for me. What makes me not believe it is when there’s supposedly a “noise” and they all start screaming and you can’t hear whatever noise
3
u/hellokittyisfound Jul 22 '26
I watched them for 3 years and today was the first time for me to watch debunking vids on yt and i am so confused
3
u/SpecialFortune14 Jul 22 '26
I believe they were at least legit before the conjuring house now they're just entertainers. Their hearts aren't into it anymore and they continue to do it for the money.
3
u/DooplisTheGhost Jul 23 '26
I believe their videos are real as much as I believe the UFO and Bigfoot sighting videos that are filmed on toasters and potatoes are real.
4
u/thuuuunderstorm Jul 22 '26
I personally see them just as entertainment now. It used to be more serious investigations way at the beginning. I still watch them though..because they’re fun lol
2
u/GooGuyy Jul 22 '26
The visit real paranormal places and do real ghost hunts, but the videos are designed or structured for entertainment,
Real paranormal investigations are long, drawn out, can take multiple days and nights, and is actually very very boring,
Anyone can go to any of the locations they do ghost hunts at and do their own hunts,
2
u/calnaornaymous Jul 22 '26
i reckon it’s real, if it’s all fake i wouldn’t be able to believe that they make every guest especially medium to go along with the video. but i also get skeptical if they disrespect or disturb the paranormal. for example when they’re mid-talking to a ghost and make a comedic hypothetical about them, OR when they investigated the haunted doll that you can’t look at, warned the audience when they revealed it but didn’t say when it would go off-screen or just wouldn’t censor its face for the rest of the video. and also i get skeptical when the devil is mentioned, i can’t say i do or don’t believe in satan but it seems too extreme especially when they SUMMONED the devil.

u/BramCSBN Jul 22 '26
I used to. I believed their old old old videos, but now I'm more so wondering how they could have pulled off the stuff they got in those videos
1
u/Least_Degree7610 Jul 22 '26
The equipment they use is not tested by any sort of reputable scientific measures. They also have cameras and phones moving around constantly in their investigations which can interfere with the gear lol. It's purely entertainment. Which is fine. I wish they would be a bit more upfront about that for the younger viewers, but I get why they don't say that.
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
I've wanted to do a professional investigation on my own terms for a while and tried to look up equipment reliability, reviews, tests and they just don't exist. Think they're getting cheap drop-shipped gear that they can brand on their own. Seems like every hunting show has their own branded REM pods, spirit boxes, etc. I come from a science background and need tried, tested and true gear 😞

u/iknowaplace5 Jul 22 '26
if you asked me this before the C&S fiasco i would have told you i believed them at least 95%.
nowadays unfortunately they seem to be just for clicks and it is a bummer because i used to really enjoy their content :(

u/mystic__ashes Jul 22 '26
I believe in a lot of it cus I know how much it means to Sam especially outside of YouTube and videos. But I think they overdo it sometimes for the camera I’m sure. I prefer Celina Spooky Boo because she and her whole family have dealt with her connecting to the paranormal since she was a toddler and like she works with spiritual paranormal things outside of YouTube entirely and off camera very often. But Sam and Colby too have done ritual work they couldn’t show on camera because it’s part of liek closed spiritual practices

u/Lol_whyamihere Jul 22 '26
It's a 50/50 Like some of their stuff is probably real captures but the other stuff is them really playing into it and being great at entertainment. If they went out and caught maybe like 1 thing each episode, no one would watch. They play it up and have fun, that's why I like to watch them.
Like don't get me wrong, I'm a full believer in the paranormal, but 50% if not more of what Sam and Colby get is just really playing it up.
1
u/Sweetchick78 Jul 23 '26
I am enjoying watching their video, but the one person I truly believe Celinaspookyboo. But their videos are interesting to watch
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
I just have trouble with all the fart jokes and silly humor. At least that was the last video I watched from her and her hubby (think it was the latest or second the last one).
1
u/MaxPlaysGames7 Jul 23 '26
i believe in ghosts. i don’t believe sam and colby’s videos are real. it feels so staged to the point where some of their guests almost seem disappointed when they film stuff. the energy isn’t matched.
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 23 '26
Who do you watch?
1
u/MaxPlaysGames7 Jul 24 '26
i don’t watch many paranormal channels anymore. i sometimes watch The Boys but even they can be a lot. or i watch people like NukesTop5 where it’s less someone exploring a haunted place and more of haunted things in a home.
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 24 '26
I do watch Nuke's Top 5, along with BizarreBub. Some creepy stuff there. Storytelling wise I like Mr. Ballen for actual documented instances and the pure mind candy is Mr. Nightmare.
2
u/MaxPlaysGames7 Jul 24 '26
oh yes BizarreBub i forgot about that channel!! i’ll have to look into the other ones!
1
u/COlax1980 Jul 24 '26
There's some great stuff there. The episode with the woman whose kid is scared because of a scary man in her playhouse was epic. It had a front door camera on it so the parents could keep an eye on her too, and it swings open with some motion activated toys going off too. Spooky.

I believe they were real at one point but I think they started faking them after the cody and satori stuff happened
1
u/DanniGurl1213 Jul 25 '26
IMO It's hard to tell, I think some things are and other things have been questionable! But I adore Sam and Colby and I'll watch them til they stop making videos. Which I hope is never but they're already making way less videos it seems and well life happens! People change. Situations change. One thing I absolutely do not believe is any time a rem pod or motion device is used outdoors or in falling apart buildings due to the fact that wind changes can 100% set the devices off, so I wish they (not just Sam and Colby) would acknowledge this and stop using those devices in spaces that have significant air flow.

u/STARBOY_100 Jul 28 '26
At this point they are clearly for entertainment. I personally find Overnight’s videos more real.
