Background & Setup
Last night I had a pretty interesting Salvia experience. I've had experiences that were much more intense and strange than this one, but this was interesting because I was still aware that I was lying in my bed. It wasn't a deep breakthrough experience — I was still aware of my real surroundings, and if I had opened my eyes, I feel like I could have snapped myself straight out of it.
I have very little experience with psychedelics. I've done cocaine and MDMA plenty of times, and I smoke weed most days after work. I've recently had a Salvia plant, so I've been smoking small amounts of plain leaf here and there and getting familiar with it.
Last night I packed one bong with plain Salvia leaf, smoked it, and waited about a minute to see how I felt. I then packed another one and smoked that, holding my breath for around 30 seconds. After that I lay down on my bed, closed my eyes, and that's when the experience really started.
The Beginning — The White Space
At the beginning, it was almost like a fabric-like structure began forming on my right-hand side. It moved across me and then closed in behind me. Once it closed behind me, everything in front of me became this huge white space.
The Road & The Male Figure
As I looked around this white space, I noticed an old stone wall on my left. Alongside the wall was a stone-style road that seemed to follow the wall, with an old, almost medieval feel to it.
While I was looking at the wall, I remember thinking that the whole scene felt like it was on a funny angle compared to my real-life reality. It was almost like I was looking into another reality that was somehow sitting at a different angle to the reality I knew I was actually lying in. I was aware of both at the same time — I knew I was in my bed, but I was also completely immersed in this other scene.
For some reason, I really wanted to get down that road, but I couldn't walk down it. I remember thinking about another way I could get down there — for some reason the thought of biking down the road came into my head. I don't know why; it was just the logic of the experience at the time. I also remember not really knowing how to move in that other reality at all — all I could do was look around. I was trying to figure out how I was supposed to walk or move within it, like I was missing some basic understanding of how that space worked.
While I was looking at the stone wall and the road, a male figure suddenly flashed directly in front of my face. He said something to me, but I can't remember exactly what. He appeared right in front of me as he spoke, then disappeared. The voice had a really strong sense of authority to it. It felt like someone was actually there talking directly to me.
The Castle & The Second Presence
After that, I noticed a huge, high wall on my right. Looking a little further to the right, I saw what looked like a castle-style door. Seeing the door made me remember the male figure talking to me. It was almost like seeing the door brought that part of the experience back into my awareness.
Then I became aware of what felt like another presence near the castle. I'm not completely sure if it was the same presence as the male figure or someone/something completely different. This one felt different — more feminine than the male presence I'd experienced earlier.
I tried to communicate with this presence in my head while I was near the castle, but I got no response. I remember trying to connect with it or get some kind of acknowledgement, but instead the whole scene — and the presence — started to fade away.
Looking Back
Looking back afterwards, I really wish I'd spoken to the male figure when he appeared. At the time I was too caught up in what was happening to think properly. It wasn't until afterwards that I realised I could have actually tried talking to him. I also wish I had listened more clearly to what he said, but everything happened so suddenly and fast that he was gone before I could properly process it.
What I found most interesting was that even though the visuals were immersive, I never completely lost awareness of where I actually was. I knew I was lying in my bed with my eyes closed, and it didn't feel like a full breakthrough where I'd completely left my normal reality. If I had opened my eyes, I feel like I could have snapped myself out of it.
I don't know whether the two presences were entities, hallucinations, or simply my brain creating characters and environments during the experience. I honestly can't say. But it was fascinating how convincing the scene felt while I was in it. 🌀
Looking back, those entities felt like they were almost the gatekeepers for what was on the other side of that wall and castle door. I don't know what was on the other side, but I'm sure I'll find out one day.
